Encounter Alaska in 3 wilderness adventures – flightseeing, glacier hiking, and packrafting – in one day! This 5-hour tour is Juneau’s first multi-sport adventure of this kind.

Your adventure begins with boarding a six-passenger floatplane and taking off from the water on your way to Norris Glacier. Your flight will sweep towards the Taku Inlet, where you’ll head toward the Juneau icefields, seeing mountain goats, black bears, and moose as you fly by. Landing on a lake fed by the Norris Glacier, you’ll hike over terrain carved out by glaciers to a cove where your packraft will be waiting. You’ll be outfitted with single person packrafts, and receive a short training on paddling techniques from skilled guides, and make ready to launch into the water. Once paddling, you will pass the glacier, go around ice bergs, and take in being surrounded by the Alaskan wilderness landscape all around you.

As you near the glacier, you will beach your packraft right on the Norris Glacier, and guides will assist you into getting out of the packraft and into microspikes for the journey onto the glacier. Explore the otherworldly landscape of a glacier in a one-of-a-kind journey on foot, with incredible views of Norris and Taku glaciers. Glacier features come and go throughout the season, and each experience is unique, so prepare yourself to find anything from crevasses, glacier pools, moulins and other features. Upon completions of this singular experience on the glacier, you return to your packraft and paddle back to shore, where your floatplane awaits to bring you back to Juneau.

What's the weather like on the glacier? Is it cold?

Answer: Juneau temperatures during the summer are typically between 50 and 65 degrees, with an average of 56 degrees Fahrenheit (13 degrees Celsius). The temperature on the glacier is about 5 degrees cooler, but can feel up to 15 degrees cooler due to katabatic winds (cold downslope winds coming down the glacier). Please bring layers of clothing including a warm hat and gloves.

How many guests can attend on this tour?

Answer: There can be up to 6 participants on this trip. There is a guide to guest ratio of 1:6.

    What is the minimum age?

Answer: The minimum age is 12 years old, and they must be able to meet the strenuous nature of the tour.

Will the trip still operate if it is raining?

Answer: Because much of SE Alaska is a rainforest, these trips do operate rain or shine. Rain jackets and pants are provided on this trip. If weather conditions are unsafe, the trip will be canceled and we will provide a refund. This can happen on canoe trips from time to time and will be typically related to sea or lake conditions, not rain.

What if our ship is delayed or doesn't make it into port? Refund?

Answer: It's very rare that a ship is delayed into port, but in those cases we will try our best to work with you to reschedule the tour to a later time. If that is not a possibility or your ship doesn't make it into port, we will refund you.

What do we need to bring?

Answer: This is an all-inclusive tour. We provide all the gear you need to be safe and dry. However, please remember to dress for the weather. We suggest wearing comfortable, non-cotton layers.
