One of our popular and most budget-friendly Juneau excursions, the City and Glacier Tour is the perfect casual outing, especially for visitors hoping to also explore other activities. Take a comfortable motor-coach tour of historic Juneau and get up close to the majestic Mendenhall Glacier, all in one fun and relaxing half-day excursion. Hop aboard to explore Alaska’s capital city, once the number-one mining town in the world, and take in its stunning place among mountain vistas and meandering waterways. Then get ready for your ride to the Mendenhall Glacier, one of 38 massive glaciers in the Juneau ice field, and prepare to be stunned by the ethereal blue ice of its towering face! One of our top Juneau excursions, this Juneau city tour is the best of both worlds!
During your 45-minute Juneau city tour, you’ll pass through the historic downtown district and colorful old port while learning about this modern city, one that still retains elements of its beginnings as a wild frontier town and an epicenter for one of the largest gold rushes in world history. Your guide will be knowledgeable about Southeast Alaska, ready to teach you about the origins and culture of the Haida-Tlingit tribes, as well as Russian, European, and American influences on the city and region. Your Juneau city tour will conclude by passing over the Gastineau Channel for sweeping panoramic views of the city (the perfect point for a photo stop!). Your transport will then continue to the Mendenhall Glacier. Here, you’ll have 1 hour to walk a short trail around Mendenhall Lake, with its many floating icebergs, toward the face of the glacier itself. If you would like to stay longer at the glacier, you can take the white Glacier Shuttle bus back to town every 30 minutes. The last shuttle of the day changes each day so please ask your driver the day of your tour. You’ll also have the option to get an elevated view of the ice from the Visitor Center, where you’ll find some fascinating interactive geological exhibits. From the Visitor Center, you will be returned to the cruise docks after having combined two very relaxing and enjoyable Juneau excursions in a delightful half-day of exploration.
