Escape into the wilderness for a relaxing day of paddling, a beautiful hike through the temperate rainforest, and an oceanside picnic featuring local Juneau foods around the campfire on this family-friendly Taste of Nature Kayak and Gourmet Food Adventure. This Juneau kayaking experience takes you far from the crowds for a laidback and delicious day among the wonders of Alaskan nature: watching for sea lions, seals, porpoises, eagles, and maybe even humpback whales as you paddle quietly in a remote wilderness haven with spectacular views of distant glaciers and the majestic Chilkat and Coast Ranges. Your Taste of Nature Kayak and Gourmet Food Adventure begins just north of Juneau with a 15-minute guided walk through the Tongass National Forest, the world’s largest temperate rainforest. You’ll then arrive at a secluded local harbor, where you’ll board two-person sea kayaks for up to two hours of gentle paddling far away from the tour boats, allowing unparalleled opportunities for wildlife viewing along the rugged Pacific coastline, and quiet enjoyment of the spectacular natural setting. The gentle pace and small group allow for plenty of interaction and the opportunity to learn about your surroundings from your expert guides, who have a true love of nature and the outdoors. When you return to land, a gourmet picnic featuring craft foods from Juneau will be waiting for you onshore, so have your appetite ready!

Your kayaking Juneau eco-adventure begins with pick-up right at the cruise docks and transport to the kayak base for gear-fitting and safety instructions before travel to the launch location about 20 miles north of Juneau. Your expert guides will select a route for your sea kayak paddle to maximize wildlife viewing opportunities. When you return from your interpretative paddle, a gourmet picnic lunch will be waiting for you! This meal includes the highlights of Juneau’s craft food scene, a sockeye salmon spread, kelp salsa, and more. Absolutely do not forget to bring your camera to capture the highlights of this true Alaska wilderness experience! Kayaking Juneau is a memory you’ll keep for long after you return to shore.

What if I have food allergies?

Answer: Please inform us of all allergies, dietary issues, and restrictions. We can accommodate gluten-free and some vegetarian meals, but please be advised that this tour is not recommended for anyone with severe food allergies.

Will the trip still operate if it is raining?

Answer: Because much of SE Alaska is a rainforest, these trips do operate rain or shine. Rain jackets and pants are provided on this trip. If weather conditions are unsafe, the trip will be canceled and we will provide a full refund. This can happen on kayaking trips from time to time and will be typically related to sea or lake conditions, not rain.

What if our ship is delayed or doesn't make it into port? Refund?

Answer: It's very rare that a ship is delayed into port, but in those cases we will try our best to work with you to reschedule the tour to a later time. If that is not a possibility or your ship doesn't make it into port, we will of course refund the full cost of the tour.

What about restroom facilities along the way?

Answer: You'll have a chance at the kayak base to use the restroom, but after that we will be entering the great outdoors. We recommend all guests follow 'Leave No Trace Principles' and should the need arise, we request packing all trash from the trip including toilet paper. If this is of concern for you, we recommend bringing toilet paper and a ziploc bag for easy packing.

How many guests are on this tour?

Answer: There can be up to 8 passengers on this trip, and there is a minimum of 2 guests for the trip to operate. With advanced notice, we can accommodate larger groups on private tours.

Do I need previous kayaking experience?

Answer: Nope! This trip is rated as 'Easy' or 'Moderate' and we can accommodate even beginner kayakers. There is a recommended fitness level with the ability to paddle for 1-2 hours and hike 1-2 miles on uneven terrain.
