Whale Watching Tour

Arriving

Situated as they are in one of the world’s premier whale grounds, Juneau whale watching tours are a must-do on any visit to Alaska! Whale watching Juneau is never disappointing: first of all, sightings of humpback whales are guaranteed, and second of all, there’s always an excellent likelihood of sighting bald eagles, orcas, seals, sea lions, black bears, and other stunning Alaskan wildlife as you cruise the waters of the Inside Passage. Alaska’s amazing whales can grow up to 42 feet in length and weigh up to 66,000 lbs (!), so when they breach they can certainly make quite a splash! Have your camera or video recorder on hand to capture all the action, as Juneau whale watching tours are likely to give you lots of chances for sightings!

Your whale watching Juneau adventure begins with convenient pick-up near the cruise docks, followed by a 25-minute drive through downtown Juneau, with narration provided during the journey to introduce you to the sights of Alaska’s capital city and its rollicking history as a wild frontier mining town. On arrival at Auke Bay Harbor you’ll be welcomed aboard a customized whale-watching vessel and head out to the nutrient-rich waters favored by humpback whales and many other marine creatures. Your ship offers uninterrupted wildlife viewing from either spacious outdoor decks or the comfort of an indoor heated cabin. Light snacks and refreshments are provided on-board as your captain and crew help sight wildlife and provide fascinating insights into the feeding and behavioral patterns of the humpback whale. The excitement heightens when your captain spots a pod of the behemoths and cuts the engines to encourage these graceful giants of the deep to come into closer view! For getting up close and personal with Alaskan wildlife, Juneau whale watching tours are an experience without equal; join us and you’ll understand why whale watching Juneau is the highlight of many an Alaskan adventure!

How can you guarantee that we will see whales?

Answer: The captain and crew are out there everyday, and understanding the whales' patterns and behavior is their job! Whales are creatures of habit like us and prefer certain feeding locations.

How many people are on this tour?

Answer: There are a few different boats used for this tour. The enclosed jet boats seat up to 28 people, and the larger catamarans can accommodate up to 49 people (if the tour is at full capacity).

Is there a restroom on board the boat?

Answer: Yes, there is a small restroom on board the boat and also an opportunity before leaving at Auke Bay Harbor. We certainly recommend using the facilities at Auke Bay before leaving, as the onboard restrooms are quite small.

What should we wear and bring?

Answer: This tour operates rain or shine, and rain is common as we lie in a temperate rainforest! For comfort, we typically recommend long pants, closed-toed shoes and a waterproof jacket. Some guests choose to bring a small bag or backpack along to store extra layers, a bottle of water and cameras.

What if our ship is delayed or doesn't make it into port? Refund?

Answer: It's very rare that a ship is delayed into port, but in those cases we will try our best to work with you to reschedule the tour to a later time. If that is not a possibility or your ship doesn't make it into port, we will refund you.
