Head to Jewell Gardens, just out of town, for a truly one-of-a-kind Skagway glassblowing experience that consistently garners the most glowing reviews of our Skagway shore tours! Explore three acres of beautiful organic gardens in a miniature version of the White Pass train, watch glass artists at work, and enjoy delicious food from fresh garden produce. Finally, best of all, get hands-on in the studio as experienced glass craftsmen guide you through the delicate process of making your own decorative glass ornament, which is carefully packaged and posted to your home address at no extra charge. Previous visitors have consistently reported that this Skagway glassblowing experience is fabulously fun and informative: it’s the surprise hit of many Alaskan vacations!

It’s the exclusivity and intimacy of Skagway shore tours like this one that lends the positive customer satisfaction ratings: Guided by the expert glass artists, each guest participates in the production of an exquisite blown-glass ornament. You’ll choose the design and colors of your own unique creation! Afterward, using a free map as a guide, explore gardens set against the backdrop of majestic mountains and Harding Glacier, and enjoy a scrumptious snack or meal at Poppies Garden Restaurant. Later, you’ll have time to browse the glass gallery and gift shop for hand-blown glasswork to admire or purchase. The Skagway glassblowing experience is a family-friendly excursion, so the kids will be able to make their very own glass ornaments! Indeed, children as young as four years old have loved this experience! It’s recommended that you allow two hours at Jewell Gardens, but this excursion has no official time limit, so you can relax and enjoy this wonderful atmosphere at your leisure. When you return home after your vacation, your glass artworks may already be waiting for you in the mailbox, ready to hang up in a window, float in a garden pond, or hang on the Christmas tree year after year. It’s no wonder that this tour is a major favorite among Skagway shore tours!

I've never done anything like glassblowing before. Do I need previous experience?

Answer: Nope! Actually, very few people have ever blown glass before because there are so few facilities open to the public to try this for themselves. Don't worry, you'll be shown what to do and it's more about seeing the basic processes than trying to craft a master work on your first try.

What about the ornament? Do I get to keep it?

Answer: Absolutely. And the best part is you don't even have to travel home with it while worrying about breaking it the whole time. The pieces are cooled slowly overnight and this 'annealing' process helps to make them more durable. We'll ship out your ornament in the mail free of charge, so it's home not too long after you are.

I see that pickup is not included, so how do I get there?

Answer: The Gardens are just a short ride away from the cruise docks and there are shuttles that depart from the cruise docks every 30 minutes. The cost of these shuttles is included in your tour price, and your voucher is also your shuttle ticket. Upon booking, your confirmation details and voucher will contain more information about the Skagway SMART shuttles.

What about early in the season? Is there much to see in the Gardens in May?

Answer: The landscape of the garden changes drastically through the course of the summer and May offers fantastic viewing for the thousands of tulips planted. Things really get going by mid-May with the increasing sun and the glassblowing demonstrations are of course always in effect!
