Mon - Sun 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
It’s no secret that some of the very best Alaska shore excursions take place along the glorious White Pass Route between Skagway and Canada’s jaw-droppingly wild Yukon Territory. With stunning natural features like blue-green Emerald Lake and the unexpected Carcross Desert, it’s also no wonder that this route is oft described as a world-class road trip. With this modified version of the Private Emerald Lake Tour, you’ll see all the unforgettable sights between Skagway and Carcross, stopping whenever and wherever you see fit for photos and sightseeing, and will also embark on a guided hike that’s customized to match your group’s goals. This exclusive sightseeing tour, not available from the cruise lines, lets you customize your adventure to help ensure a fun and exciting outing. But no matter how exactly you choose to build your private journey, with scenic vistas of waterfalls, towering peaks, and old-growth woods, you’ll be sure to return with photographs and memories to last a lifetime!

This exclusive Emerald Lake tour, one of the best Alaska shore excursions for nature- and history-lovers, starts with pick-up from the location of your choosing in Skagway. Then it’s off into the wild along the same route followed by intrepid 1898 gold rushers! Your driver/ private guide, an expert on the area, will be right there to answer your questions as you work your way toward Emerald Lake and the Yukon. See something interesting on the way? Well pull off and check it out! It’s your tour, your way. En-route, your guide will help you decide on the best option for a scenic hike, so don’t forget those cameras! Later, in Carcross, it’s time for a guided tour of this history-saturated adventure outpost, including a stop at Carcross Desert, a hard-to-believe sandy sea in the middle of mountainous wilderness! Without a doubt one of the best Alaska shore excursions for folks hoping to do things their own way, the Private Emerald Lake & Hiking Tour could be just right for your crew. Note: This exclusive full-day excursion is limited to a maximum of 14 people per vehicle, so, as for other Yukon tours from Skagway, advance bookings are recommended. Also note that base price is for the entire group, rather than per person. See the Additional Information tab for more detailed cost information.

Will we make it back to the ship in time? What if we don't?

Answer: We've never left anyone behind and only schedule tours that work well with your cruise ship's itinerary. We leave plenty of cushion so you can confidently book your trips independently.

What if our ship is delayed or doesn't make it into port? Refund?

Answer: It's very rare that a ship is delayed into port, but in those cases, we will try our best to work with you to reschedule the tour to a later time. If that is not a possibility or your ship doesn't make it into port, we will of course refund the full cost of the tour.

Is transportation included? Where is the meeting location for this tour?

Answer: Round-trip transportation is included with this trip right from your cruise ship. The guides will meet you right at the end of your specific cruise ship and you will be returned to the cruise ship at the end of the tour. If booking online, you will receive a confirmation email and voucher with complete instructions immediately upon booking.

Our ship arrives at 7:00 a.m. - do we have time to make the 7:30 a.m. departure?

Answer: Yes! In many ways, the 7:30 a.m. departure is geared towards guests arriving at 7:00 a.m. Just be prepared to disembark early or on time and there shouldn't be any problems joining the 7:30 a.m. departure.

How much is this tour per person?

Answer: This tour has no per person rate. It has a base rate of $875.00, regardless of group size, plus an additional $25.00 per person for the dogsledding portion. An additional $140.00 will be levied for groups larger than 8 people to cover a larger vehicle.

How strenuous will the hike be?

Answer: Your guide will know several possible hikes and can help you select an option that works for your group, meaning minimally strenous hikes on fairly even terrain are possible.

    What should I bring?

Answer: Passports are REQUIRED for border crossing into Canada, only 15 miles north of Skagway. For some nationalities, additional documentation may be required. Children accompanying parents should have an original or certified copy of their birth certificate or Passport. If one or both parents are not traveling with the child, a notarized letter of authorization from the absent parent(s) is also necessary to cross into Canada. Closed-toed tennis shoes or boots are a good idea for the hike. Also bring your camera! Binoculars are optional, as these are provided for you on the tour.

    Will we see wildlife?

Answer: For wildlife sightings such as bear, moose, mountain goats, and others, the Yukon is your best bet. Short of hiring a cousin to dress up in costume, we can not guarantee you’ll see wildlife, and yet, we often do!
