Keep an eye out along the elevated walkway for bear sitings, and get to know bald eagles during the presentation at the eagle center. Learn about the history behind the tradition of totem pole carving as you watch a master carver at work, before heading to the historic George Inlet Lodge for a meal that will leave your belt just a little bit tighter. The Rainforest Sanctuary and Crab Feast is one of the Ketchikan tours for wildlife, local history, and delicious treats, so get your seats today!
Similarly to our other Ketchikan tours, you will begin your Rainforest Sanctuary and Crab Feast Excursion with pick-up right from your cruise docks. From here, you will embark on a scenic drive all the coast to Hering Cove, where you will find the Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary. This gorgeous bit of protected land includes a well-maintained, half-mile nature trail where your guide will lead you. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to meander down the elevated platforms that run adjacent to Herring Cove, making them a great place to see hungry bears and other wildlife during salmon spawning season. As you complete your walking tour, you will have more animal opportunities, when your guide takes you to the Eagle Center where you will be able to view eagles and other rescued raptors up close and personal! After a stop with the resident totem carver to learn about the process and traditions behind these culturally significant works of art, it will be time to hop back in the motor coach for the more delicious portion of your Rainforest Sanctuary and Crab Feast tour! This takes place at the historic George Inlet Lodge, where you will be treated to fresh Dungeness Crab, decadent cheesecake, and a fresh salad. It’s safe to say this is among the best Ketchikan tours for satisfying both your desire to experience wild Alaska, and your appetite!
