It offers endless awe-inspiring natural beauty on the 1-hour drive from Anchorage to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. This wildlife refuge is home to black and brown bears as well as moose, lynx, wood bison, wolves, reindeer, and much more! You’re likely to see most or all of these during your guided visit. The 200-acre sanctuary is dedicated to preserving Alaska’s native wildlife through conservation and education. During your 90-minute guided tour, you have the unique opportunity to see these incredible animals up close. Meet Hugo, the Grizzly Bear found injured and abandoned but now enjoying her sanctuary at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Watch Pip and Jo, the rescued orphan moose siblings, as they play together in the tall grass. These animals and many more await you on this spectacular day trip from Anchorage that is fun for all ages!

Your Alaska Wildlife Day Tour provides pick-up at your hotel (or convenient meeting place) in downtown Anchorage. The roomy Mercedes Sprinter van has big viewing windows, perfect for snapping photos along the way which you certainly will want to do! Travel over 70 miles of the Seward Highway and take in the sights as your friendly local guide shares the stories behind them. This National Scenic Byway and All-American Road hugs the shoreline of Turnagain Arm and provides endless dramatic views of the glaciated Kenai and Chugach Mountains. It’s common to see wildlife from the road, but remember, guaranteed wildlife encounters are just around the corner on this Alaska Wildlife Day Tour!

There are restrooms available at the wildlife center.
How much walking is needed?
This tour requires minimal walking, mostly at the outset as you make your way to the van. At the wildlife sanctuary, the walking path is approximately 1.5 miles long, but you are more than welcome to ride in the van and pull up right to the enclosures for a closer look at the animals.
What's included in this tour? What should I bring?
Your booking includes hotel pickup, round-trip transportation, and friendly, knowledgeable local guides. To ensure your comfort, you should bring comfortable shoes, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and insect repellent. While summer temperatures typically range from the mid-50s to the 70s, Alaska's weather is unpredictable, so you should be prepared for rain and wind. Dressing in layers and wearing a rain-proof jacket is the best way to stay comfortable on this tour. You are welcome to bring snacks and beverages of your choice, and we recommend bringing a reusable water bottle as well.
If I have an infant under two-years-old, can I bring them on the tour?
If you plan to bring an infant on this tour, please let us know in advance to ensure there is sufficient space and that we can make the necessary arrangements to guarantee your child's safety. We do not charge extra for infants if we have room on the tour, however, anyone occupying a seat will be required to pay the adult rate. For more information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
What if the weather is bad? Will the tour be canceled?
Due to Alaska's unpredictable weather, this tour operates rain or shine and is rarely canceled. However, if the weather is too severe for the tour to take place, we will happily refund you or reschedule your tour for a different day.
How long is the drive to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, and how long will we spend there?
The one-way drive from Anchorage takes approximately one hour, and you can spend up to 90 minutes exploring the sanctuary.
