The Alaska Wildlife Day Tour is one of the best day trips Anchorage offers for families and animal lovers! This wildlife refuge is home to black and brown bears as well as moose, lynx, wood bison, wolves, reindeer, and much more! You’re likely to see most or all of these during your guided visit. The 200-acre sanctuary is dedicated to preserving Alaska’s native wildlife through conservation and education. During your 90-minute guided tour, you have the unique opportunity to see these incredible animals up close. Meet Hugo, the Grizzly Bear found injured and abandoned but now enjoying her sanctuary at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Watch Pip and Jo, the rescued orphan moose siblings, as they play together in the tall grass. Your Alaska Wildlife Day Tour provides pick up at your hotel (or convenient meeting place) in downtown Anchorage. The roomy Mercedes Sprinter van has big viewing windows, perfect for snapping photos along the way which you certainly will want to do! Travel over 70 miles of the Seward Highway and take in the sights as your friendly local guide shares the stories behind them. This National Scenic Byway and All-American Road hugs the shoreline of Turnagain Arm and provides endless dramatic views of the glaciated Kenai and Chugach Mountains.     How much walking is required?

    Answer: At the wildlife sanctuary, the walking path is about 1.5 miles but you are welcome to ride in the van as we are able to pull right up to the enclosures. The Mercedes Sprinter van has large windows but you can get out for a closer view if you'd like, the van is always accessible.

    How long is the drive to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center?

    Answer: The drive is approximately 1-hour from Anchorage to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. You'll spend about 90 minutes at the sanctuary.

    What is provided? What should I wear/bring?

    Answer: Hotel pickup, roundtrip transportation, and friendly local guides are included! You are welcome to bring a bag with whatever snacks and beverages you'd like. We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle. Summer temperatures range from mid 50's to 70's F and warmer, but you should always be prepared for rain and wind. Dressing in layers is the key to comfort, with a water-resistant jacket. Wear comfortable shoes. It is also a good idea to bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and insect repellent.

    Are restrooms available?

    Answer: There are restrooms available at the wildlife center.

    What if the weather is bad?

    Answer: This tour operates rain or shine and is very rarely canceled due to weather. If the tour is canceled, we will refund you or if you prefer, reschedule you for a different day.

    I have an infant under two-years-old, can I bring them on the tour?

    Answer: We do not charge for infants if we have room on the tour for them. Anyone occupying a seat pays the adult price. Guests who want to bring infants are required to let us know ahead of time (to make sure the tour has space). You will need to provide an approved child safety seat. Please contact us for more information.
