Make the most of your day on shore with a great option for booking Alaska excursions on a budget that includes whale watching in Juneau, time at the spectacular Mendenhall Glacier, and a fun, narrated trolley tour of downtown Juneau — all in one! First, hop on a tour bus and head for Auke Harbor, where you’ll spend two hours aboard a custom-made Juneau whale watching vessel sighting majestic humpback whales as they breach and flip their massive tails. Watch, too, for sea lions, seals, and an abundance of bird life. Whale watching in Juneau is an experience not to be missed! Back on shore, you’ll be driven out to the magnificent Mendenhall Glacier, where you can stroll at your leisure and take in Nugget Creek Falls, follow Photo Point Trail as it winds along Mendenhall Lake right up to the glacier’s face, and visit the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Information Center, where you’ll find a wealth of fascinating information on glaciers and the massive Juneau Icefield. Finally, get aboard a half-hourly shuttle back to Juneau and hop on one of the City Trolleys for a fun narrated tour of Alaska’s capital city, including the downtown shopping precinct, the Capitol Building, and the famous Red Dog Saloon, an original establishment from Juneau’s mining boom heyday with swing doors, sawdust floors, and original decor.

Combining the City & Glacier Tour with the Whale Watching Excursion, this six-and-a-half hour adventure includes all transportation and is a great day out and about for the whole family. Juneau whale watching is high on every visitor’s bucket list, and with this great value tour you get your fill of whale watching and so much more! It’s a relaxing day out with so much to experience and enjoy, so if you’re looking for whale watching in Juneau as well as Alaska excursions on a budget, this could be the one for you!

Saw the City - Loved the Glacier and WhalesOur tour started with the Juneau Town Tour, followed by the Glacier Tour and the Whale Watching Tour. The representative of the company who met us at the dock was great and got us in the right place at the right time.

The first leg of the journey was the City Tour, which was a bit disappointing. Frank, our tour guide, seemed to be doing his best. But the PA system on the bus did not work and we could not hear anything he said. The roads through town were rough and it seemed like we hit every pothole. It all seemed a bit rushed.

Once we were out of town the tour improved. Frank showed us a lot of wildlife along the way to the Glacier. At the Glacier we were given tips on which trails to take and when and where to be for pick-up and transfer to the Whale Watching Segment.

We enjoyed the sights around the Glacier. Be aware that the visitor's center gets very crowded. There was a line of 15 - 20 women waiting to get in the restroom the entire time we were there.

The Whale Watching segment was the highlight of the day. We were there early in the season, but still saw several humpback whales, including a mother and her calf. Our Captain on this segment was Ed. Emily and Cara (?). They were all great and kept us entertained on the trip out to the whales and back.

This was one of the best tours we took overall. The staff was great. The problems we encountered were pretty much beyond their control. Would we do it again? Absolutely.

We saw more whales than we expected. They were spectacular. We also saw sea otters. The crew was fun and funny. I would recommend to others.

Juneau City Tour, Mendenhall Glacier, and Whale Watching TourSince it was raining hard, it was difficult to see out the bus windows on the City Tour. The glacier walk was fantastic but we had just enough time to walk to the falls and back and no time to visit the museum. The whale watch was the highlight of the day. The boat was new and both the captain and naturalist were experts. We saw numerous whales very close to the boat.

Can we spend more time at the glacier?

Answer: Because this tour relies on structured timing for all 3 components, it is not possible to extend the glacier experience. If you're looking to spend more time at Mendenhall Glacier, it would be better to join the Whale Watching & Glacier tour as that tour has more flexibility and you'll be able to request more time.

Will we make it back to the ship in time? What if we don't?

Answer: We've never left anyone behind and only schedule tours that work well with your cruise ship's itinerary. We leave plenty of cushion so you can confidently book your trips independently.

Is there a restroom on board the boat?

Answer: Yes, there is a small restroom on board the boat and also an opportunity before leaving at Auke Bay Harbor. We certainly recommend using the facilities at Auke Bay before leaving, as the onboard restrooms are quite small.

What if our ship is delayed or doesn't make it into port? Refund?

Answer: It's very rare that a ship is delayed into port, but in those cases we will try our best to work with you to reschedule the tour to a later time. If that is not a possibility or your ship doesn't make it into port, we will of course refund the full cost of the tour.

What should we wear and bring?

Answer: This tour operates rain or shine, and rain is common as we lie in a temperate rainforest! For comfort, we typically recommend long pants, closed-toed shoes and a waterproof jacket. Some guests choose to bring a small bag or backpack along to store extra layers, a bottle of water and cameras.

How can you guarantee that we will see whales?

Answer: The captain and crew are out there everyday, and understanding the whales' patterns and behavior is their job! Whales are creatures of habit like us and prefer certain feeding locations.

How many people are on this tour?

Answer: There are a few different boats used for this tour. The enclosed jet boats seat up to 28 people, and the larger catamarans can accommodate up to 49 people (if the tour is at full capacity).
