Arriving

There are two things you definitely need to experience while you’re in Juneau: whale watching and getting up close to a glacier. This Juneau whale watch and glacier tour is an unbelievable way to do both in a single excursion (helping keep your Alaska shore excursions cheap)! Whale watching in Juneau Alaska is an unforgettable experience, and this tour offers guaranteed sightings of these giants of the deep. You’ll have two hours aboard a customized whale-watching vessel to view massive humpback whales breaching the surface, as well as sea lions, seals, orcas, porpoises, eagles, and innumerable other sea birds. The specially designed boats offer uninterrupted viewing from an outdoor deck or indoor heated cabin. Then, after your amazing experience whale watching in Juneau Alaska, it’s time to head to majestic Mendenhall, the world’s only drive-up glacier. Here, you’ll be entranced by the beauty of the crystal-blue glacier and by your untamed wilderness surroundings. Plus you can explore some of the nature trails in the area at your own pace and pay a visit to the visitor center, where you’ll find a wealth of fascinating information.

Your double Juneau whale watch and glacier adventure begins with convenient pick-up near the cruise docks for a short drive to Auke Bay, with your guide providing an entertaining narrative as you drive through downtown Juneau, Alaska’s capital city. Once you reach the water, it’s anchors aweigh as you head out into the Inside Passage (and prime whale watching waters!). When your captain spots a whale, the motors will be shut down and the boat allowed to drift. The whale watching boats are not allowed to directly approach the whales, but with the motors off these gentle giants often come closer of their own accord! After two hours of stunning wildlife viewing, your vessel will return to harbor and you’ll step aboard a bus for the short drive to Mendenhall Glacier. After you’ve had your fill of exploring this natural wonder, simply hop aboard one of the half-hourly shuttles that runs throughout the day and hitch a ride back to the cruise docks. Whale Watching and Mendenhall Glacier ComboGreat tour! Whale watching with Captain Ben, Jerry and Lukas - all very friendly and informative. We saw a few whales where other tourist boats where, and then our Captain took off in search of a more 'private' whale viewing and we witnesses a whale feeding, came up twice straight up - was wonderful to see.

Mendenhall Glacier is also a must to see. From this area you can not only witness the magnificent Glacier but also the Nugget Falls and can go on nature trails - we even saw 5 bears!

Totally recommended. Thank you to all involved in the tour.

Just OKToo small a boat -- everyone crammed in on benches. Made it difficult to see. If your idea of a "light snack" is gummy bears, be my guest. The tour guides were friendly but could have been more informative about the area's wildlife.

Whales and GlaciersCan't say enough about how wonderful the tours were. From the bus drivers to the crew of the boat, everyone was truly friendly, informative, and made the trip memorable. We saw whales and orcas on the trip and it was absolutely amazing. I was able to take plenty of pictures. The glacier and waterfall were beautiful. While we weren't able to walk all the paths at the park, we were able to take some beautiful pictures there also. I'd highly recommended Alaska Shore Tours in Juneau.

Whales and Eagles, and lots of IceGood introduction to whale watching in Juneau, but could have used a little more information on the animal's behavior and life cycle. The glacier visit was a bonus, especially the feature that lets you stay as long as you want. We saw a Carnival sponsored tour while we were there, and none of them seemed too happy about the length of their visit. Some confusion amongst bus drivers for the return trip, but this was sorted out. Good overall - 4 out of 5.

A wonderful way to spend the dayWe had a fabulous day with Juneau Tours seeing both Mendenhall glacier and having a whale watching tour combo. From the pickup in Juneau things went smooth and were well explained for how to transfer to the whale watch tour from the glacier. We toured the glacier for about an hour then off to Auke bay to meet with Captain Jordan and Brendan for our whale watch. It only took a little while and they were able to locate a whale that we followed for a while getting great photo opportunities. After watching this graceful animal we headed over and saw some Stellar Sea Lions that were hanging out on their local buoy! It was like an added bonus to get to see these creatures while out to see whales. Both Jordan and Brendan were extremely knowledgeable and it was evident that they thoroughly love the job that they do. Brendan had some great jokes to make for a great boat ride out and back. The weather in Juneau was absolutely beautiful the day we were there (May 9, 2017), a lovely 60 degrees and sunny. I highly recommend this tour as it was a great way to spend the day in Juneau, even our 7 year old loved it!

Best tour everGreat time with Kelly and Dirk . She really loves her job and got just as excited as we were to see whales bubble feeding. They made us feel comfortable and welcome. There was no boring speech as knowledge just flowed from Kelly about whales and Alaska.
It was the best tour of our trip . Our boat was small and everyone could see, not like some of the crowded 2 level cruise tours we saw .
No problems finding them or getting back to the ship. I loved not having a set time to leave the glacier, as we hiked around the area .
I would book with this company and recommend to anyone lucky enough to go to Alaska .

BreathtakingThe bus tour was a great start to our day thanks to Brandy. She was vet knowledgeable and funny. The whale watching was breathtaking. Honestly breathtaking! We saw a mommy whale with your baby, and the baby put on an awsome show. He breached about ten and playfully splashed about so long we didn't have time to stick around and continue watching. A big thanks to our tour guide's who made the experience even better. Steve, Emily, and another lovely young lady who's name I have forgotten.
Glacier park was great to and our last bus driver of the day was just as wonderful as Brandy.
It was definitely worth the money. My son will have a beautiful memory forever.

We loved this excursion! Their passion, energy, and dedication to helping us have a great experience was awesome! We not only saw the whales, eagles, and sea lions, we also saw Alaska in a way we would not have seen it without their guidance. Also, one of the reasons I chose this company rather than my cruise options was because we were not limited by time at the Mendenhall Glacier. We could return to town anytime we wanted which is very different than any other excursion options. Thank you for a great experience!

Amazing Whale Watching TourWe had an amazing whale watching tour with Ben & Jerry. Jerry knew so much about the whales and Ben was great with driving the boat. We saw humpbacks and then they found orcas that "played" around our boat. They were an incredible team and we highly recommend them to have the BEST whale watching experience.

That was so cool!! Then we went to where the humpbacks are known to be. Not only were we able to see Orca's, we saw 9 (yes 9) humpback whales!! We also saw them bubble fish, which was spectacular!! Very cool tour!! Then to the glacier.....very cool !! Take the walk to the waterfall! It's worth it!!

Whale WatchingOur tour was AMAZING. We got to see Orca's, Whales and the bubbling that the whales do that we heard is very rare. Our crew was GREAT. Brandon and Emma (I hope I got that right). They were just as excited as us passengers to see the bubbling. It was a fun time and I highly recommend it.

Will we make it back to the ship in time? What if we don't?

Answer: We've never left anyone behind and only schedule tours that work well with your cruise ship's itinerary. We leave plenty of cushion so you can confidently book your trips independently.

Is there a restroom on board the boat?

Answer: Yes, there is a small restroom on board the boat and also an opportunity before leaving at Auke Bay Harbor. We certainly recommend using the facilities at Auke Bay before leaving as the onboard restrooms are quite small.

What if our ship is delayed or doesn't make it into port? Refund?

Answer: It's very rare that a ship is delayed into port, but in those cases we will try our best to work with you to reschedule the tour to a later time. If that is not a possibility or your ship doesn't make it into port, we will of course refund the full cost of the tour.

What should we wear and bring?

Answer: This tour operates rain or shine, and rain is common as we lie in a temperate rainforest! For comfort, we typically recommend long paints, closed-toed shoes, and a waterproof jacket. Some guests choose to bring a small bag or backpack along to store extra layers, a bottle of water, and cameras.

How can you guarantee that we will see whales?

Answer: The captain and crew are out there everyday and understanding the whales' patterns and behavior is their job! Whales are creatures of habit like us and prefer certain feeding locations.

How many people are on this tour?

Answer: There are a few different boats used for this tour. The enclosed jet boats seat up to 28 people and the larger catamarans can accommodate up to 49 people (if the tour is at full capacity).
