  1. 5 out of 5

Fun experience in KetchikanWe booked this directly through Alaska Shore Tours and met them near our cruise boat. Had a great time out on the Karts (about 1.5-2 hours) after safety briefing, etc. We visited in late August and had stunning weather - 70-ish and dry. Only downside was it was warm enough to forego their cover-up clothing and very dusty (p.s. bring a bandana or purchase there for $5). Karts were fun to ride, safe, and we got some great views of the surrounding area including bald eagles, nature explanations, and a bit of local history.

ExcitingSo much fun! Karts speeds were much faster & the trail more challenging than expected. Our guides were awesome too!

    Fantasticly Dirty Excursion!Pros:
    Friendly and informative staff
Beautiful view at the stopping point
Lots of rough paths making the ride exciting
Great pictures were taken by the staff for purchase at end of the tour
Nice items in the gift shop for purchase
Portable Toilets were clean and the safety equipment was fairly dust free which is amazing because it can be a dusty ride!
Overall we really enjoyed this excursion.
    Cons:
The second stop for snacks seemed pointless (no view). Maybe best to have the snack at the lookout point and just do the one stop.
Safety is always a concern but felt speed was a little too slow.
Add a note to preparation info that tells people to bring bandanas to cover the face or provide cheaper bandanas in the gift shop.

Will we make it back to the ship in time? What if we don't?

Answer: We've never left anyone behind and only schedule tours that work well with your cruise ship's itinerary. We leave plenty of cushion so you can confidently book your trips independently.

Do I get to drive the karts?

Answer: Yes, the karts are each equipped for 2 passengers, and you will be either a driver or passenger on this excursion with opportunities to trade off along the way. Don't worry if it's your first time in this type of vehicle; no previous experience is required.

What if our ship is delayed or doesn't make it into port? Refund?

Answer: It's very rare that a ship is delayed into port, but in those cases, we will try our best to work with you to reschedule the tour to a later time. If that is not a possibility or your ship doesn't make it into port, we will of course refund the full cost of the tour.

What should we wear and bring?

Answer: This tour operates rain or shine, and rain is common as we lie in a temperate rainforest! For comfort, we typically recommend long pants, closed-toed shoes and a waterproof jacket. Some guests choose to bring a small bag or backpack along to store extra layers, a bottle of water and cameras.

    Is this tour safe?

Answer: Absolutely - the tour is not a fast-paced excursion, and you won't be out there to break any new land-speed records. The tempo will always be within your own comfort limits, and the trail is always wide enough for passing vehicles.

    Will we get dirty?

Answer: In short, yes, a little. :) Full pants and jackets are available to slip on over your existing clothes to keep the clothes you're wearing clean, but the trail can be dusty and/or muddy. With this in mind, footwear is not provided so hiking boots or shoes you don't mind getting a little dusty are recommended.
