Looking to explore the Southeast Alaskan rainforest, but you’re a bit short on time? Then the Moutain Lake Helicopter Tour is the ideal excursion for you! Experience more of the Tongass National Rainforest than any of the other Ketchikan helicopter tours around, but with just 1 hour of total dock to dock time, there is no need to worry about your all-aboard. This 30-minute flight takes you deep into the Tongass, to regions only otherwise accessible by hiking, so you can experience the feeling of true Alaskan wilderness even on a time crunch. With gorgeous mountain lakes and multiple wildlife opportunities, the Mountain Lake Helicopter tour has something to delight everyone in your party!

Your Mountain Lake Helicopter excursion starts right at the cruise docks, where your friendly guides will pick you up for the ride to the take-off location. After a scenic drive through the streets of Ketchikan, your pilot will deliver a 10-minute safety briefing, so you can be sure you know how to handle Ketchikan helicopter tours. Right from take-off, the magnificent views of Revillagigedo and the Tongass National Forest will begin. As you fly over this vast rainforest, you will soon come to 5 pristine mountain lakes that give the Mountain Lake Helicopter Tour its fitting name. These lakes are otherwise only accessible by hiking, making them a fantastic way to glimpse true Alaskan wilderness, including the potential for black bear and mountain goat sightings! With new sights to see at each lake, and the lush Tongass National Forest spreading out below you, you won’t want to tear your eyes away from the windows, even for a second. And, with just 3-6 total passengers on this small tour, everybody has a magnificent view and plenty of opportunities for photo ops so be sure to bring your camera along!

Can you see wildlife from the helicopter?

Answer: If you have sharp eyes, it's certainly possible to see wildlife on the mountains below. The plane flies low enough to distinguish individual animals, but of course the pilots have to respect local wildlife so it's not an objective of this tour.

    How big are the helicopters?

Answer: There are a few types of helicopters used for the tour, and you'll typically be in a group of 3 guests on the flight. Multiple aircraft will be used for groups larger than this.

What should we wear and bring?

Answer: For comfort, we typically recommend long pants, closed-toed shoes and a jacket, as the air temperature will be a few degrees cooler than the ground temperature.

Do the flights ever get canceled due to weather?

Answer: Yes, safety is a number one priority, so weather conditions are taken into account each day. In certain cases, the weather can lift and a slight delay will still allow the flight to continue. However, if a flight is canceled completely due to weather circumstances, you will receive a refund.

What if our ship is delayed or doesn't make it into port? Refund?

Answer: It's very rare that a ship is delayed into port, but in those cases, we will try our best to work with you to reschedule the tour to a later time. If that is not a possibility or your ship doesn't make it into port, we will refund you.
