Glacier Point Wilderness Safari

Arriving

One of the most positively reviewed Skagway shore excursions, the Glacier Point Wilderness Safari takes you on a spellbinding journey through some of southeastern Alaska’s most scenic natural wonders with a voyage right up to the face of the awe-inspiring Davidson Glacier Skagway! Cruise in a catamaran along ice-scoured fjords, hike through dense rainforest, and paddle a canoe on a placid mountain lake to the stunning face of the ice wall! Your full-day wilderness adventure begins with a 60-minute catamaran cruise through the Lynn Canal, North America’s longest and deepest fjord. Stay alert to spot whales, sea lions, seals, and more as you pass by steep rock cliffs, hidden coves, and crashing waterfalls. As you take in these sights, your naturalist guide will provide a wealth of enlightening information. On arrival at secluded Glacier Point Beach, an outfitted adventure vehicle will carry you on a short drive across forested glacial moraines to base camp. A quarter-mile hike through the forest leads you to a breathtaking view of Davidson Glacier Skagway and of the lake below, where you will board a 31-foot voyager canoe for a peaceful paddle around the lake and up to the face of the glacier. Back at Glacier Point, enjoy a delicious picnic lunch on the beach before your return cruise back to Skagway.

Ranked as the #2 Skagway activity on TripAdvisor, the Glacier Point Wilderness Safari is geared toward the active traveler who longs to get away from it all and out into the rich natural beauty of the Alaskan wilderness. Seats are limited, however, so advanced booking is highly recommended for folks booking Alaska shore excursions on your own. The Glacier Point Wilderness Safari includes dock-to-dock transportation for your convenience and will be a day off the beaten track that is truly unforgettable!

An Incredible View of AlaskaThis was an incredible experience! I highly recommend this excursion. It was extremely beautiful and very relaxing. The food was not the greatest, but the scenery and guides were fantastic. It was a beautiful day and the view when you approach the glacier is unbelievable. One of my favorite parts of our trip.

AMAZING!This was by far our favorite excursion from all the ports on our Alaskan Cruise. It was the first time we ACTUALLY felt like we were in Alaska. The initial boat ride was relaxing and very informative with narration by a naturalist. The guides that lead us directly to the glacier were so personable, informative, and accommodating. They actually made us feel like we were relatives visiting with them! :) The Davidson Glacier was so beautiful and Grand and literally took our breathe away. It was the BEST way to get up close and personal with the beauty Alaska has to offer! We would recommend this excursion to anyone headed up to Skagway.

Highlight of our trip! This was by far our favorite excursion of all 3 we had during our inside passage Alaskan cruise on Sept, 7th, 2016. It was the first time during the cruise where we actually FELT like we were in Alaska. The FABULOUS guides lead us right up to the Davidson Glacier where were able to get a clear view of the grandeur of the glacier and area. We saw eagles on our way there in the smooth and relaxing (and informative) boat ride to the area where we boarded the canoes and rode to the glacier. The guides made the excursion so fun, too. They were very personable, informative, and accommodating. The actually made us feel like we were family visiting from out of town. I would HIGHLY recommend this excursion to anyone heading to the Skagway port. It is WELL worth every penny!

Wonderful ExperienceI enjoyed the ride on the boat and the walk through the rain forest. The tour provides wet weather gear which kept me warm and dry. The guides were all friendly and helpful. The glacier was beautiful and being able to be so close was a very unique part of the tour. The blue coloring of the ice is exquisite.

beautiful davidson glacierIt was an exceptionally clear and calm day to enjoy the beauty of the Davidson Glacier area. Our guide Wiley was helpful and fun.

I would definitely recommend this tour to the otherwise ship-bound people on a cruise.

My one recommendation would be what I say to all tour groups I've traveled with: When you adjust a sandwich for us non-meat eaters it would be nice to put more cheese on the sandwich than you do for those who also have meat.

    Thanks

Highlight of our whole cruiseThis expedition exceeded all our expectations. We had a perfect sunny day and even the boat ride out to the park was fun and interesting. The guides were great and truly seemed happy to be there. We were lucky in that we were able to canoe RIGHT UP TO THE GLACIER - there were ice climbers on the ice right nearby. We got to stand on it, touch it, etc. and hike all around, do some "silt" facials, etc. The majesty of the glacier was awesome. The guides were funny without being annoying and very knowledgable about the area and wildlife, etc. They also gave us a simple but nice and healthy lunch back at camp and showed us how to forage for wild strawberries near camp. We LOVED LOVED LOVED our day at the glacier!!

Great excursion, great staffLoved it. The bus ride and boat ride eat up a lot of time (the only reason I gave 4 stars rather than 5) and the kids were disappointed that the canoes had motors, but the guides were awesome and visiting and even touching the glacier was amazing. We had a gorgeous day, which didn't hurt either!

We had an afternoon chop to the water on the way to Glacier Point, so the boat ride was a bit hard pounding. Once that was over, our guide Nate made the balance of the adventure great fun. My wife and I are 68 & 75 and had no problem keeping up with the younger folks. Highly recommended and well worth the price. The Glacier beautiful.

Great trip! What an adventure! Long and crazy boat ride but so worth it! We booked other excursions with other companies and this was by far the best in terms of organization, professionalism, and fun. Not for the weak or faint of heart, you have to hike, paddle, get bumped around and probably rained on, but that added to the adventure! We learned a lot about the landscape and got up close to the glacier. Super fun and unforgettable!
