Glacier Point Wilderness Safari

Arriving

One of the most positively reviewed Skagway shore excursions, the Glacier Point Wilderness Safari takes you on a spellbinding journey through some of southeastern Alaska’s most scenic natural wonders with a voyage right up to the face of the awe-inspiring Davidson Glacier Skagway! Cruise in a catamaran along ice-scoured fjords, hike through dense rainforest, and paddle a canoe on a placid mountain lake to the stunning face of the ice wall! Your full-day wilderness adventure begins with a 60-minute catamaran cruise through the Lynn Canal, North America’s longest and deepest fjord. Stay alert to spot whales, sea lions, seals, and more as you pass by steep rock cliffs, hidden coves, and crashing waterfalls. As you take in these sights, your naturalist guide will provide a wealth of enlightening information. On arrival at secluded Glacier Point Beach, an outfitted adventure vehicle will carry you on a short drive across forested glacial moraines to base camp. A quarter-mile hike through the forest leads you to a breathtaking view of Davidson Glacier Skagway and of the lake below, where you will board a 31-foot voyager canoe for a peaceful paddle around the lake and up to the face of the glacier. Back at Glacier Point, enjoy a delicious picnic lunch on the beach before your return cruise back to Skagway.

Ranked as the #2 Skagway activity on TripAdvisor, the Glacier Point Wilderness Safari is geared toward the active traveler who longs to get away from it all and out into the rich natural beauty of the Alaskan wilderness. Seats are limited, however, so advanced booking is highly recommended for folks booking Alaska shore excursions on your own. The Glacier Point Wilderness Safari includes dock-to-dock transportation for your convenience and will be a day off the beaten track that is truly unforgettable!

Wonderful Excursion- Even in Rain!We had a wonderful time on this excursion. From the second we got off the ship the tour staff we met were friendly and accommodating. The gear provided worked well- especially because it rained the entire trip! No worries though, with adequate gear and wonderful guides we had a blast regardless. Plus, with the gray skies the glacier really seemed to glow blue!

My only comment is that this trip is slightly more labor-intensive than we had anticipated. We were traveling with a family member who had a knee replacement the year before and were going off of the "guests should be able to hike 1/4 mile" disclaimer on the site. In truth, we walked closer to 2 miles along very uneven terrain (shifting sand), which was outside his comfort zone. That said, we all enjoyed our trip, and would definitely do it again next time we visit Skagway. This was the highlight of our cruise on the inside passage!

Great tour and guides were excellentAll the staff were knowledgeable and great. Only reason for 4 stars was something out of control of the staff. The drop off point from the canoe was a second choice because the primary was blocked with water. This secondary drop off point was a 1/4 to 1/2 mile (approx) walk over rocks. Because the provided boots provided no foot/ankle support it made walking difficult, however, out of their control as the drop off point was a decision made on the spot. Lots of this depends on your abilities (do you do some hiking, are you used to uneven terrain, etc. Folks with walking poles fared much better.

Glacier BeautyWe had fun with our knowledgeable and friendly guides on this adventure. We couldn't get close enough to touch the glacier a a large crack had appeared over night, but we still enjoyed the beauty. A bear cub spotting while on our motorized canoe trip portion made it extra fun.

An Incredible View of AlaskaThis was an incredible experience! I highly recommend this excursion. It was extremely beautiful and very relaxing. AMAZING!This was by far our favorite excursion from all the ports on our Alaskan Cruise. It was the first time we ACTUALLY felt like we were in Alaska. The initial boat ride was relaxing and very informative with narration by a naturalist. The guides that lead us directly to the glacier were so personable, informative, and accommodating. They actually made us feel like we were relatives visiting with them! :) The Davidson Glacier was so beautiful and Grand and literally took our breathe away. It was the BEST way to get up close and personal with the beauty Alaska has to offer! We would recommend this excursion to anyone headed up to Skagway.

Highlight of our trip! This was by far our favorite excursion of all 3 we had during our inside passage Alaskan cruise on Sept, 7th, 2016. It was the first time during the cruise where we actually FELT like we were in Alaska. The FABULOUS guides lead us right up to the Davidson Glacier where were able to get a clear view of the grandeur of the glacier and area. We saw eagles on our way there in the smooth and relaxing (and informative) boat ride to the area where we boarded the canoes and rode to the glacier. The guides made the excursion so fun, too. They were very personable, informative, and accommodating. The actually made us feel like we were family visiting from out of town. I would HIGHLY recommend this excursion to anyone heading to the Skagway port. It is WELL worth every penny!

Wonderful ExperienceI enjoyed the ride on the boat and the walk through the rain forest. The tour provides wet weather gear which kept me warm and dry. The guides were all friendly and helpful. The glacier was beautiful and being able to be so close was a very unique part of the tour. The blue coloring of the ice is exquisite.

beautiful davidson glacierIt was an exceptionally clear and calm day to enjoy the beauty of the Davidson Glacier area. Our guide Wiley was helpful and fun.

I would definitely recommend this tour to the otherwise ship-bound people on a cruise.

My one recommendation would be what I say to all tour groups I've traveled with: When you adjust a sandwich for us non-meat eaters it would be nice to put more cheese on the sandwich than you do for those who also have meat.

    Thanks
