Travel back to 1898 on the Going for the Gold: Panning and Dredge Tour! Experience the life of a prospector as you learn about the Yukon and Skagway Gold Rush, pan for gold, and explore an incredible dredge that operated until the late 1950s. Your guides, dressed in character, show you what it was really like for the prospectors of the Gold Rush through a fun show with historical footage and mining antiques. Then, it’s your turn to try your hand at gold panning in the covered warm-water troughs. You’re guaranteed to find gold in every pan! Once you’ve collected your pay dirt, have it weighed in the Assayers’ Office that’s full of unique collections of gold nuggets and artifacts. Stroll the grounds that are filled with interactive displays and enjoy views of the Harding Glacier and Skagway River. The family-friendly Going for the Gold: Panning and Dredge Tour offers excitement for guests of every age!

Your Skagway gold rush begins with a walk through the time tunnel and a tour of the massive Gold Dredge. Formerly used in the Klondike Gold Fields, this impressive 350-ton piece of machinery is one of only a few rescued dredges and stands as a great monument to the gold rush seekers of the past century. Then, learn the art of gold panning from seasoned prospectors with an entertaining film and demonstration. Finally, it’s off to the troughs for you to have your fun finding your buried treasure! See how well you did when by the assayers in the Gold Parler and shop the unique gift store. Explore the grounds where costumed guides entertain as well as educate, visit the Snack Shack for drinks and treats, and take in the beauty of the surrounding scenery. You’ll leave Dredge Town with a newfound appreciation for the Klondike gold rush, perfected panning skills, and priceless photographs! At just two hours in duration, the Going for Gold: Panning and Dredge Tour is a highly recommended experience to include in your Skagway visit.

Pair this Skagway shore excursion with another unique and fun tour, the Glassblowing Experience! Alternatively, add some sightseeing to your day with the White Pass Summit & City Tour or Half-Day Yukoner!
