Keep your eyes trained and your hands ready to grab the nearest pair of high-powered binoculars on this one-of-a-kind trip among Skagway day tours!
Your Wildlife Safari & Bear Viewing experience begins with a 45-minute Fast Ferry from Skagway to Haines, which affords you plenty of time to take in the stunning landscape around you. From here, your narrated drive with an experienced naturalist will begin, with your first stop being the historic Fort Seward, the first military base in Alaska. As your group leaves Fort Seward, your wildlife viewing opportunities begin! You will journey through the magnificent Chilkoot Valley along the Lynn Canal, where you will be able to see marine life such as seals, sea lions, porpoises, and even whales. Once you reach the Chilkoot River, you will be in a prime bear-viewing location, as the huge salmon runs that come through the area create a feast for hungry brown bears! This area is what gives the Wildlife Safari & Bear Viewing tour its name, as you will have the opportunity to see bears, mountain goats, salmon, river otters, bald eagles, and an abundance of migratory birds through the powerful scopes and binoculars provided by your guides. After spending the better part of your tour in this area, you will return to Haines for a picnic-style lunch on a private beach, before heading to the Chilkat River to catch a glimpse of all 5 species of wild Pacific Salmon. This is certainly one of the Skagway day tours that will leave you with true Alaskan memories that will last a lifetime!
Please Note: This tour does not begin operation until July 15th to maximize your potential to see bears feeding on the spawning salmon.
