Skagway is the only shore stopover on the Alaskan cruise route where you can head inland for a day of scenic discovery. Most popular Skagway shore excursions heading inland along the Klondike Highway only go as far as White Pass Summit, but the full-day Yukon Discovery tour takes you further into Canada to the legendary Yukon! Follow in the footsteps of the stampeders of the 1898 Gold Rush as they headed in their thousands from Skagway to seek their fortunes in the Yukon. These days, the Klondike Highway is one of the world’s great scenic drives, with stunning alpine scenery, tranquil mountain lakes, waterfalls and opportunities to view bears and other wildlife in their native habitat. Your Skagway excursion ends at the historic Gold Rush town of Carcross, and along the way you’ll stop at beautiful Emerald Lake and visit Caribou Crossing Trading Post where you’ll have the opportunity to view husky puppies, visit the animal petting farm, and spend time in the Yukon’s largest wildlife museum. Your local guide will be on hand at all times to answer your questions and provide information on all you are seeing and experiencing on your Yukon Discovery.

Your adventure begins with pick up right at the cruise docks in Skagway. The Yukon Discovery is a full-day Skagway excursion running for a duration of 6.5 hours so lunch is provided, with a vegan and gluten-free option available. Leave your sea legs behind on the cruise ship and take a trip inland for a wonderful opportunity to gain a glimpse into a still remote and vast wilderness on the Yukon Discovery tour!

What type of vehicles are used?

Answer: For this particular tour, comfortable custom mini-coaches are provided, with a 13-to-32 passenger capacity. All feature large touring windows, bucket seats and PA systems for the guide to communicate along the way.

What is served for lunch?

Answer: A stop at Caribou Crossing Trading Post includes a homemade BBQ chicken lunch with baked potato, coleslaw, dinner rolls, and their famous all-you-can-eat donuts. As a vegetarian option, an Indian Dahl replaces the chicken portion of the meal.

Are there photo opportunities?

Answer: Yes! There are opportunities and pull-outs along the way to get off the bus and take pictures.

Will we see wildlife?

Answer: Of the various Skagway tours, the Yukon adventures have one of the strongest opportunities for wildlife viewing. Tours entering Yukon include a chance of encountering caribou, sheep, mountain goats, and sometimes even bears and moose. While your chances are good, we cannot guarantee wildlife sightings.

Are there shopping opportunities?

Answer: Yes! In Yukon, we make a stop at Caribou Crossing Trading Post as well as the historic town of Carcross, both with opportunities for Canadian souvenirs.

Why are passports required for this tour?

Answer: This tour enters Canada’s Yukon Territory and passports will be required to go through the Canadian customs post, as well as to re-enter the United States. Passports are required for all adults and children 16 or older. Children 15 and under should have an original or certified copy or birth certificate or a Passport. This only applies to USA or Canada citizenship that they can use the birth certificate. Any other nationality would need Passport for all ages. If one or both parents are not traveling with the child, a notarized letter of authorization from the absent parent(s) is also necessary to cross into Canada. Some nationalities may also require a Canada and/or USA Visa. (Single-entry is acceptable). Please bring all original documentation, no copies are allowed. If passengers show up for the tour without the proper ID, they will not be allowed to board. While we will attempt to accommodate passengers lacking identification, there is no guarantee that suitable arrangements can be made, and no refund will be given under these circumstances. Passengers with felonies, DUI, or criminal charges are not allowed entry into Canada.

How have Candian border & Covid-19 restrictions affected this tour?

Answer: All passengers must be fully vaccinated for Covid-19. Bring your proof of Covid-19 vaccinations. Also required is your ArriveCAN submission receipt (either paper copy or screenshot on your phone-there is no internet at the border crossing to pull up information online). ArriveCAN is required for cruise ship embarkation so you will complete this in the 72 hours before your ship departure. This submission is also good for our tour day in Skagway. For 2022 we will be following CDC and cruise line guidance regarding masks and vaccination. Travelers must be vaccinated against Covid-19 as per cruise line requirements. Masks are highly recommended while in the bus, but we are not able to enforce the wearing of masks since guidelines have changed in recent months. We ask you to please be flexible and considerate with any potential requirements needed to accommodate group travel at this time. Guidelines could change during the cruise ship season.
