Description

The Rainforest Canopy & Zipline Expedition receives some of the most glowing reviews and is definitely an excellent choice for thrill-seekers! Climb aboard a massive all-terrain Unimog vehicle for the steep ascent up a mountainside to a ziplining course bordering the magnificent Tongass National Forest nature reserve. Then launch yourself on a high-flying, fast-and-furious ride through the top of the rainforest canopy along eight dual-cable ziplines ranging from 100 feet all the way to the adrenaline-pumping 750-foot line called Ben’s Revenge. Your heart-pumping adventure covers 6000 feet of scenic canopy and ground-based trails, as well as three suspension bridges swaying high above the forest floor. Keep your eyes peeled, and you could be lucky enough to spot bald eagles, black bears, and the other wildlife abundant in this pristine wilderness area.

This adventure is recommended for those who have already experienced ziplining and are ready to tackle a new challenge. As with other Ketchikan tours, pick-up and drop-off for the scenic 16-mile round trip are conveniently located near the cruise docks in downtown Ketchikan. Your adventure begins as you board the Unimog for a gravity-defying ride up a steep mountainside to the starting point for the ziplining course. Here, your experienced guides will outfit you with state-of-the-art safety equipment and give you detailed orientation before you launch yourself out into the treetops, where you’ll fly along as high as 135 feet above the ground! When you finally descend from the final viewing platform you’ll be awarded with a custom-cast medal for your achievement. Then you can get your breath back while enjoying a snack and hot beverage. Frequently Asked Questions

How many ziplines are included on this tour?
This tour consists of 8 ziplines and 3 skybridges, ranging from a short 100 feet up to 850 feet. You will be up to 135 feet above the forest floor. The final zip-line emerges from the rainforest and transports you over lush grassy wetlands to a viewing tower at 55 feet above the ground, where you'll rappel to the ground.
What makes this zipline tour different from any other in Alaska?
It's true that you'll find several ziplining options along the cruise route, and this one can be distinguished mainly by its scenic location. Nestled in a private reserve in the Tongass National Forest, wildlife sightings are much more common on this ziplining excursion than any other in Alaska.
What should I bring? Are cameras okay?
Closed-toe shoes are required and long pants and layered clothing are recommended. Some guests show up with the clothes on their back and the smile on their face. Other guests show up with a small backpack that contains an extra clothing layer, a bottle of water, a snack and other personal items. So, it's up to you! Space is often limited on the shuttle, so it's best to keep your items to a minimum, but bring what you need. While on the tour, you're welcome to use your camera to snap photos of the beautiful scenery, yourself and your group! A smaller camera works best, but if you're comfortable bringing your DSLR you may; however, they can be burdensome while zipping at times. Keep in mind that you will be several stories above the forest floor at times while ziplining, so if you drop your camera it will likely not survive; for this reason, be sure that your camera has secure neck & wrist straps or is compact enough to fit in the small zippered hand pocket of the provided rain jacket. If bringing a large camera, the staff ultimately determines if your camera may be taken on the course, as it pertains to your safety and the safety of other guests and our guides. Additionally, we have photographers ready and waiting for you to fly through the trees, with your photos available for purchase after your adventure. Once you arrive at the zipline course, your guides will collect the group's belongings and secure them. Upon completing your tour, you will be able to quickly retrieve your personal items!
What if it's raining?
We zip rain or shine! Rain jackets will be provided at the start of the tour. We recommend you dress warm and in layers if the weather is cooler, rainy, or windy.
Is ziplining safe?
Safety is fundamental to our operations. Our safety policies and procedures eclipse the standards established by the Association for Challenge Course Technology, the recognized authority in this field. We use state of the art equipment, provide extensive guide training, and conduct our tours in a safe environment. We use state-of-the-art course gear. Equipment includes harnesses, safety lanyards, pulleys/trolleys, carabineers, and helmets. Equipment is inspected daily and maintained in top condition to provide the safest and most comfortable zipping experience. For each group of zipliners, you will have two certified guides that are versed in First Aid/CPR and AED certification.
What are the requirements to join this tour?

Participants should be adventurous and in good physical condition. Guests with mobility limitations, women who may be pregnant, and those with a seizure disorder should obtain medical advice and release prior to participating.
