Listen for cracking and watch for calving from the giant ice walls of Colony Glacier that feeds into the lake. This and so much more are in store for you on the Helicopter Zodiac Iceberg Tour & Lower Glacier Landing!
Glaciers are constantly changing and they have quite a fascinating life cycle. But, not all Alaska glacier excursions give you the opportunity to see each part of that life cycle first hand. If you’re a glacier enthusiast or adventure-seeker, then this Helicopter Zodiac Iceberg Tour & Lower Glacier Landing is the perfect choice for you!
After takeoff at the helicopter base, the mighty Knik Glacier comes into view within just a few minutes. Excitement grows as you marvel at the stunning birds eye view on your way to the gorgeous Lake George. Here, you’ll gear up and then follow the expert guide down to the zodiac-style boat. As you head across the lake, passing building-sized icebergs, the scale of these glaciers as well as the remoteness of this magical landscape settles in. After a fun-filled hour here, it’s then time for your second helicopter landing on the glacier itself. Your pilot/guide takes you to the incredible natural formations like the deep crevasses, moulins, melt pools and waterfalls. Don’t forget a water bottle, as you’ll be encouraged to take a chunk of this ancient ice from the lake and water from on top of the glacier for quite the crisp and refreshing drink! Lastly, after your 30-minute glacier walk, it’s time for another stunning flight back to the base. You’re sure to get amazing photos and have a grand adventure on this incredibly fun Anchorage glacier tour!
Note: Guests can drive themselves to the base at Knik River Lodge or purchase a roundtrip transfer shuttle from Anchorage (see FAQs for more details).
