For More Information

Mon - Sat 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Juneau icefield helicopter tours are the best possible way to experience the breadth and beauty of this awe-inspiring region, as they provide the opportunity to see forty large glaciers and around one hundred smaller ones! The Icefield Helicopter Excursion is the most popular of the helicopter tours in Juneau and features a full hour of unforgettable flightseeing. Your helicopter heads for the Herbert Glacier, where your pilot guide will gently touch down on the glacier itself, shut down the engines, and conduct you on a fascinating and informative walk in this other-worldly, frozen environment. The remote beauty of frozen rivers of ice backed by rugged, ice-capped mountain peaks is truly spell-binding, and with helicopter tours in Juneau like this one, you get to experience a 360-degree aerial view, take a walk on a glacier, experience the thrill of a helicopter ride, and encounter a heart-stopping landing right on one of the largest glaciers in the Juneau Icefield!

Dock-to-dock transportation is included, and just a short ride from the cruise docks takes you to the helicopter base, where you’ll be greeted by your pilot/guide and taken through some brief safety instructions. If this is your first helicopter flight, any butterflies will soon be settled as you take off and become totally absorbed in the breathtaking beauty of the landscape below. Juneau icefield helicopter tours are on the bucket list for most travelers to Alaska, and the Icefield Helicopter Excursion is perfect for those who want to experience the thrill of a helicopter flight and glacier landing without additional activities such as dogsledding or airboat rides.

For a helicopter adventure combined with glacier dogsledding, you might consider our Helicopter & Dogsled Glacier Excursion.

Amazing experienceEverything perfect: pick up from the cruise terminal, transfer to the helicopter pad, nice explanations by staff, and a great pilot (Jamie) who shared with us a lot of interesting information about the area and the glaciers. Astonishing views from the helicopter on the glaciers and amazing experience to walk on the glacier.

Once in a Lifetime AdventureWell worth the money. Our pilot Jamie was the best. Took us to a glacier that was very rarely visited, maybe once or twice a year because of weather. Landed on the glacier, walked around and drank glacial water. Jamie educated us all on the formation of the glacier. It was perfect blue skies and no winds. We booked this excursion independent of the cruise line... less money, excellent!

The best experienceI had the best experience of my life. It was the first time I rode in a helicopter and the pilot was very professional and was also our photographer. Always necessary that we have a group photo. We were 6 people and we all enjoyed that magical moment. The attention provided from when they picked us up until they took us back to the cruise was great. I recommend it 100%.

Up and awayWe were a bit apprehensive of the winds in Juneau that almost turned our cruise ship away, but the pilot did an excellent job! The views from the helicopter and Herbert Glacier were spectacular. We loved every minute.

Left BehindI can’t help wondering why our pilot took one woman by the arm and helped her walk around the glacier and left me and my husband standing by the helicopter, afraid to navigate on the ice. We both had recent joint replacements and were afraid of falling. Our pilot parked on a slightly hilly terrain with crevasses of 70 feet deep nearby which we were deathly afraid of approaching. We left him a big tip afterward but in retrospect wonder why he acted as he did.

    How many passengers per helicopter?

Answer: Each helicopter can seat up to 6 passengers, provided the weight and balance calculations work out in each aircraft.

What if my tour group is larger than 6 people?

Answer: There are several helicopters available at the base and can make accommodations for larger groups with advance notice. If your group exceeds 6 passengers and requires the use of multiple aircraft, we instruct the pilots to coordinate landing locations on the glacier so that you can have your landing time together.

Why do you land on the Herbert Glacier?

Answer: We find the Herbert Glacier to be of particular charm and seclusion. Most passengers on our helicopter tours feel like they’re the only people in the world while on their glacier landing, and we like to keep it unique and exclusive for everyone.

Will the pilot get out with us?

Answer: Definitely. Your pilot will act as your guide for your entire helicopter tour, including the time you’ll spend on the glacier. This allows for a truly focused tour experience.

Will we see wildlife on the tour?

Answer: There is a good chance wildlife will be seen during your tour, either in flight or while on the glacier. However, this is not a wildlife viewing tour and we cannot guarantee you will see wildlife.

Can children come on the tour?

Answer: Absolutely! We are more than happy to accommodate children of all ages and there are several car seats available for customers to use.

What happens if the weather is too bad to fly?

Answer: If the weather is just not cooperating and the pilots determine that it’s too bad to fly, we’ll do our best to reschedule you to a later time of day that works for you. If you choose not to reschedule or we can’t find a time that works for you, our refund policy clearly states that refunds due to weather canceled flights are refunded in full.

What if I need extra help on the tour?

Answer: Your pilot will be with you the entire tour, so they’ll be happy to lend a helping hand whenever necessary. If you require extra assistance, don’t hesitate to contact us ahead of your tour and discuss your particular needs.
