Helicopter tours in Juneau are the best possible way to experience the breadth and beauty of this awe-inspiring region, as they provide the opportunity to see forty large glaciers in addition to around one hundred smaller ones! The Icefield Helicopter Excursion is the most popular of the helicopter tours in Juneau and features a half-hour of unforgettable flightseeing. Your helicopter heads for the Herbert Glacier, where your pilot guide will gently touch down on the glacier itself. Then, he’ll conduct you on a fascinating and informative walk in this other-worldly, frozen environment. Have your camera ready! Because the remote beauty of frozen rivers of ice backed by rugged, ice-capped mountain peaks is truly spell-binding. On this Icefield Helicopter Excursion, you’ll experience a 360-degree aerial view, a thrilling helicopter ride, as well as a walk on one of the largest glaciers in the Juneau Icefield!

As with all of our Juneau helicopter tours, dock-to-dock transportation is provided. Excitement builds on the 20-minute drive from the docks to the helicopter base! Once at the base, you’re fitted in glacier boots, greeted by your pilot/guide, and taken through a brief safety orientation. Don’t worry if this is your first helicopter flight! Any butterflies will soon be settled as you take off and become totally absorbed in the breathtaking beauty of the landscape below. Helicopter tours in Juneau are on the bucket list for most travelers to Alaska, and the Icefield Helicopter Excursion is perfect for those who want to experience the thrill of a helicopter flight and glacier landing in a short amount of time.

    How many passengers per helicopter?

Answer: Each helicopter can seat up to 6 passengers, provided the weight and balance calculations work out in each aircraft.

What if my tour group is larger than 6 people?

Answer: There are several helicopters available at the base and can make accommodations for larger groups with advance notice. If your group exceeds 6 passengers and requires the use of multiple aircraft, we instruct the pilots to coordinate landing locations on the glacier so that you can have your landing time together.

Will our group all be in the same helicopter?

Answer: The helicopters hold up to 6 people. While we strive to keep all groups under 6 together, in order to balance the weight distribution in the helicopter & ensure a safe flight, groups may be split up into separate helicopters upon reaching the helicopter base. If this is the case, you will still land with the rest of your party on the glacier, and will be able to spend this time with them.

Why do you land on the Herbert Glacier?

Answer: We find the Herbert Glacier to be of particular charm and seclusion. Most passengers on our helicopter tours feel like they’re the only people in the world while on their glacier landing, and we like to keep it unique and exclusive for everyone.

Will the pilot get out with us?

Answer: Definitely. Your pilot will act as your guide for your entire helicopter tour, including the time you’ll spend on the glacier. This allows for a truly focused tour experience.

Will we see wildlife on the tour?

Answer: There is a good chance wildlife will be seen during your tour, either in flight or while on the glacier. However, this is not a wildlife viewing tour and we cannot guarantee you will see wildlife.

Can children come on the tour?

Answer: Absolutely! We are more than happy to accommodate children of all ages and there are several car seats available for customers to use.

What if I need extra help on the tour?

Answer: Your pilot will be with you the entire tour, so they’ll be happy to lend a helping hand whenever necessary. If you require extra assistance, don’t hesitate to contact us ahead of your tour and discuss your particular needs.

What happens if the weather is too bad to fly?

Answer: If the weather is just not cooperating and the pilots determine that it’s too bad to fly, we’ll do our best to reschedule you to a later time of day that works for you. If you choose not to reschedule or we can’t find a time that works for you, we will refund you.
