Description

Alaska cruise excursions don’t get more authentic than the Alaska Fishing: Cook Your Catch tour! Experience a day in the life of a local Alaskan in the Salmon Capital of the World. Professional guides create an outing that your family won’t soon forget, including a meal that might easily be the best you’ll eat in Alaska! Explore the unspoiled wilderness of Alaska’s coastline as you cast your line in exclusive Ketchikan fishing locations. Enjoy a remote and beautiful campsite where you can walk the secluded shoreline or venture through the rainforest filled with ancient cedars and spruce trees. Sip coffee and hot chocolate as you trade your “fish tales” around the cozy campfire while your chef prepares your freshly caught lunch. If you’re looking for Alaska cruise excursions off the beaten path, then you’ve found it here. You’ll have memories to last a lifetime on the Alaska Fishing: Cook Your Catch adventure!

Your adventure begins with pickup right at your cruise ship dock, then a short walk with friendly guides to the gear center. You’ll be outfitted in true Alaskan style with waterproof boots, bib overalls, rain gear, hat, and gloves. Additionally, you’ll obtain your state-required fishing license before heading out to the boat. Departing from downtown Ketchikan, it’s just a 20-30-minute boat ride to prime fishing locations. There are many opportunities to spot eagles, seals, whales, and even spawning salmon and black bears in the fall. Excitement builds as you get ready for your saltwater bottom fishing, hunting for halibut, lingcod, rockfish, and more!

Never fished before? No problem! You are provided with quality fishing gear as our seasoned guides teach you the secrets of jigging, how to set the hook, and how to bring up your catch. With a limit of 6 guests per boat, your guide customizes the excursion to fit your interests and skill level. Once you’ve caught your lunch, it’s time to head to the remote campsite nestled in the lush rainforest! Watch the chef prepare your freshly caught meal, explore the stunning surroundings, or just cozy up next to the warm fire. Your gourmet meal includes your fresh catch atop bouillabaisse with potatoes, fire-baked fresh bread, and spicy rouille. Lastly, a signature dessert of blueberry and rhubarb bread pudding compliments this sumptuous lunch. While many Alaska cruise excursions include local food, none compare to this fresh gourmet meal! You’ll return to town renewed from your exciting day of fishing, sightseeing, wildlife viewing, and true Alaskan dining. Don’t forget your camera, as you’ll want to capture many moments on this exclusive Alaska Fishing: Cook Your Catch experience!

Frequently Asked Questions

How many passengers per boat and what type of boat is it?
To ensure the comfort of all guests, we limit the capacity to 6 passengers per skiff. A skiff is an open boat that is propelled by an outboard motor. A skiff is a modern cousin to Vancouver's longboat, or the Native Alaskan oceangoing canoe. We operate a 21 ft open air skiff with a Suzuki 140 HP outboard motor.
What if our cruise ship's schedule is canceled or delayed?
We will try our best to work with you to reschedule the tour to a later time. If that is not a possibility or your ship doesn't make it into port, then you will receive a refund, less any non-refundable fees.
What does the meal include?
Other than your freshly caught fish, the meal includes bouillabaisse (no shellfish) with Yukon gold potatoes, accompanied by fresh sourdough rolls with a garlic aioli and spicy rouille. For dessert, a blueberry and rhubarb bread pudding. Also included is coffee and hot chocolate.
What should I wear and what is provided?
Each guest is outfitted in Helly Hansen waterproof rain pants, rain coat, warm wool hat, wool socks, rubber boots, and gloves. You'll want to wear comfortable layers for underneath the rain gear. We are proud to feature Penn rods on our excursions and a selection of rods which varies depending on the species of fish we are pursuing.
Is transportation provided?
Yes! Roundtrip transportation is provided from the cruise ship dock. You'll receive an email confirmation with full meeting instructions upon booking.
Will I get sea sick?
Ketchikan is located within Alaska's Inside Passage. The water here is normally very calm. Even when the winds pick up during the winter months and the weather gets bad, the islands create a break for us and we hardly see a wave. We rarely have passengers that have to deal with seasickness, even those who are prone to motion sickness are comfortable on our boats. The boats which we operate have a low center of gravity, eliminating the rolling motion that usually generates a queasy stomach. If you are extremely sensitive to motion, you may want to take typical motion sickness medicine before coming. However it’s highly unlikely that you will need it.
I really want to do this excursion, but my cruise ship's time in port is too short.
We can accommodate you! If your ship’s time in port requires a shorter tour, both fishing and dining time will be reduced accordingly.
