Self-proclaimed “Foodies,” listen up! This one is for you!
In this special-edition local’s guide to the best restaurants Juneau Alaska has to offer, we’ll walk you through a number of favorite Juneau establishments, several of which fall not only among stellar Juneau eats, but also represent some of the top Alaska restaurants, period! Don’t miss your chance for some unforgettable meals!

Red Dog Saloon

With a reputation that often precedes itself, the Red Dog Saloon has been around Juneau since the prospecting days. Literally, it’s been around: The saloon has inhabited multiple locations during its colorful history, and it currently sits overlooking the docks. An easy walk from the cruise docks, the Red Dog Saloon features an impressive collection of memorabilia reflecting its long history. From furs to antique guns to old mining equipment, this place is, understandably, proud of its past. Burgers, sandwiches, and cold beer are the name of the game. It’s the perfect stop, in other words, for refilling after a long day of hiking on your Mendenhall Glacier Trek! No reservations are needed at this gem among the most fun restaurants Juneau Alaska has to offer: first come, first served.

    • Price Range: $$
    • Offerings: Burgers, sandwiches, beer
    • Location: 278 S Franklin St

Looking to experience a piece of Alaska’s frontier history? The Red Dog Saloon is a historic, fun, and tasty spot for massive lunch and dinner servings!

The Rookery Café

Tucked away in the middle of downtown Juneau, the Rookery Café is one of my personal favorite Alaska restaurants. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, they take pride in making as many of their products from scratch as they can. If you’re an early riser and looking for a great coffee shop and breakfast spot, you’ve found it. My personal suggestion: try the Scotch Egg served for breakfast. The avocado spread is to die for! With amazing munchies, Rookery is a perfect and quick café to pop into en route to your late-morning Whale Watching and Glacier Tour!

    • Price Range: $
    • Offerings: Espresso and fusion meals
    • Location: 111 Seward St

Best Restaurants in Alaska

Perhaps the best breakfast in Juneau? (Or of any Alaska restaurants??) Rookery has excellent espresso drinks, as well as exceptional breakfast and lunch built largely around Asian Fusion meals.

Sandpiper Café

The Sandpiper Café is another hidden gem in downtown Juneau and a favorite of locals. Open only for breakfast and lunch, the popularity of this place keeps it busy, especially on the weekends. They serve American classics such as omelets, steak and eggs, and quiche for breakfast, while lunch has sandwiches, burgers, soups and salads. Make sure you come hungry: the large portions served are what bring people back time and again to this premier establishment among Alaska restaurants.

    • Price Range: $$
    • Offerings: Breakfast, burgers, sandwiches, soup/salad
    • Location: 429 W Willoughby Ave

If there’s a Juneau establishment that rivals Rookery Café’s breakfast selections, it’s without a doubt Sandpiper Café. This locals’ favorite has excellent and heart brunch options. Talk about presentation!

Hangar on the Wharf

Looking for that majestic waterfront view? Check out Hangar on the Wharf, one of the best Alaska restaurants for hearty dinners! Built out of an old airplane hangar, and providing lovely views of the channel (keep an eye out for float planes ferrying adventurous visitors back from their Admiralty Bear Watching Excursion!), this exceptional example among the restaurants Juneau Alaska harbors boasts 25 beer taps and over 125 beers (!) to select from. But while you’re enjoying that craft brew, don’t miss out on the seafood selection here. Halibut macadamia, seared citrus salmon, and of course king crab are just a few of the options. This place also serves sandwiches, burgers, steaks, and pub fare. Something for everyone, indeed, at this highlight among restaurants Juneau Alaska.

    • Price Range: $$
    • Offerings: Seafood, burgers, large beer selection
    • Location: 2 Marine Way #106 (inside the wharf)

Best Restaurants in Alaska

The Hangar’s extensive beer selection, waterfront views, and delectable seafood make it an excellent option for Juneau dining, especially if you’re hunting for an afternoon or evening meal.

V’s Cellar Door

Appropriately named, V’s Cellar Door is an underground establishment in the middle of downtown Juneau that offers very unique Mexican-Asian Fusion cuisine. Start off with a plate of Fusion Nachos for the table for a sample of what you’re in for: tortilla chips topped with cheese, pinto beans, guacamole, sour cream, cabbage slaw with their signature fusion sauce, sesame seeds, and either Korean chicken, bulgogi steak, or ginger tofu. They also have several house special cocktails, as well as locally made gin. Take-out orders are welcome if you’re a little short on time after an afternoon tour but still want to try something different and unique while in Juneau. Stop in and fill up after a tiring but exciting day of exploring the canopy on your Alaska Zipline Tour, and you’ll be sure to leave happy!

    • Price Range: $$
    • Offerings: Mexican, Fusion, and specialty cocktails
    • Location: 222 Seward Street

Hip and modern, V’s is a higher-end eatery with excellent experimental offerings, as well as a number of tasty alcoholic beverages.

Tracy’s King Crab Shack

Without doubt one of the more famous restaurants Juneau Alaska features, Tracy’s King Crab Shack is a staple. If you came to Alaska looking to try some locally sourced crab, this is the place. They are all about crab here, serving massive king crab legs as well as crab bisque, crab cakes, and a crab cake roll. Located right on the docks, the service here is friendly and very fast. A variety of Alaskan brewed beers are available on tap and in a bottle or can.

    • Price Range: $$$
    • Offerings: Seafood, especially king crab
    • Location: 432 S Franklin St

Best Restaurants in Alaska

Touristy and popular, but for good reason, Tracy’s is the spot to go if you’re looking to sample Alaska’s legendary king crab. It’s on the pricier side, but if you’re on the hunt for a hearty seafood meal, this might be just the place!
