This incredible tour takes you from the quaint port town of Skagway high onto the Juneau Icefield, where you will be greeted by the excited yips of the true northern athletes, Alaskan sled dogs. This 2-hour Skagway dog sled tour will delight you with glacial views, towering peaks, and a thrilling dog mushing experience. At the dog sled camp, you will even have the opportunity to learn the art of mushing from your experienced guides, and give it a go for yourself! The Skagway Helicopter and Dogsled Excursion is a unique Alaskan excursion that lets you experience both the quintessential sport and breathtaking beauty of this great state.

Your Skagway Helicopter and Dogsled Excursion is a two-hour excursion that will delight you from start to finish. Your excursion takes off right from the historic Skagway waterfront to begin your tour. From here, you will begin your 15 minutes of breathtaking helicopter time over the mountains of Skagway on your journey to Denver Glacier. Here, your Skagway dog sledding tour will begin. You will have 30 minutes to explore the dog sledding camp, interact with the dogs and mushers, and learn about this traditional Alaskan sport. Then, it’s your turn to experience the excitement of mushing! You will hear the energy and joy the dogs feel as they are selected to run, yipping and straining against their harnesses, and you will be given the option to assist the musher driving the sled or hand over the reins and enjoy the ride. There is truly nothing like a Skagway dog sled tour on snow! Your Skagway Helicopter and Dogsled Excursion ends with an equally beautiful 15 minutes of helicopter time back to Skagway as you stare down at Denver Glacier and the spectacular Lynn Canal.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I need extra help on the tour?
Your pilot will be with you the entire tour, so they’ll be happy to lend a helping hand whenever necessary. This tour does require a moderate level of fitness in order to load/unload the helicopter and navigate on icy/uneven terrain. If you require extra assistance, don’t hesitate to contact us ahead of your tour and discuss your particular needs.
Will we see wildlife on the tour?
There is a good chance wildlife will be seen during your tour, either in flight or while on the glacier. However, this is not a wildlife viewing tour and we cannot guarantee you will see wildlife.
What happens if the weather is unsafe to fly?

If the weather is not cooperating and the pilots determine that it's unsafe to fly, we'll do our best to reschedule you to a later time of day that works for you. If you choose not to reschedule and we can't find a time that works for you, we will refund you.

How many passengers per helicopter?
Each helicopter can seat up to 6 passengers, provided the weight and balance calculations work out in each aircraft.
What if my tour group is larger than 6 people?
There are several helicopters available at the base and can make accommodations for larger groups with advance notice. If your group exceeds 6 passengers and requires the use of multiple aircraft, we instruct the pilots to coordinate landing locations on the glacier so that you can have your landing time together.
Can infants come on the tour?
Absolutely! We are more than happy to accommodate children of all ages. Lap children under 24 months fly for free!
