The full-day Yukon Discovery Sled Dog tour takes you on a scenic journey inland from Skagway, over the stunning White Pass Summit, and into Canada’s legendary Yukon Territory. The tour follows the same route as the Yukon Discovery (one of our other Skagway tours), but with a fun and exhilarating bonus: a dogsled ride along a gorgeous forested trail with a team of huskies that spend the winter months competing in races such as the 1000 mile Iditarod race.

The Yukon Discovery Sled Dog tour follows the same route taken in 1898 by the thousands of stampeders who headed north for the Klondike Gold Rush. You’ll be driving through a vast and pristine wilderness, so wildlife sightings are frequent! Keep your eyes peeled for eagles, bears, and even moose once you reach the Yukon. A local guide is on hand to narrate tales of Klondike history, and there are plenty of photo stops to capture the stunning scenery and picturesque views from high overlooks. It’s no wonder that the Yukon Discovery Sled Dog tour is one of our most popular Skagway tours!

Your adventure will begin with pickup near the Skagway docks. After a beautiful scenic drive along the Klondike Highway—past alpine meadows, waterfalls, and tranquil glacier-fed lakes—you’ll arrive at the Yukon-based musher’s camp for lunch. Here, you’ll have time to view the husky puppies, chat with the experienced mushers, and experience your ride with the sled dogs. You’ll be pulled by these canine athletes in a 12-passenger custom wheeled training cart, or a four-wheeler ATV if the weather is too hot for the dogs to pull the cart. Excitement audibly builds as the mushers ready their teams of 8-12 dogs and you catch a unique glimpse into the team dynamics and passion as the dogs can’t wait to take off. Then, your musher drops the brake and your sled dogs are off and running through the forest on a specially designed training course, forking right and left along the trail as they respond instantly to the musher’s commands, and even stopping for a bit of playtime at the watering hole! Along this 1-mile ride, you will have the opportunity to hear stories from professional mushers about what it takes to train and care for their huskies and to compete in 1000-mile winter race events with up to 90 dogs at a time. (Time on the sled dog trail may vary slightly with temperature, trail conditions, and teams).

Note: You may wish to consider the Yukon Discovery Tour, one of our other Skagway tours which includes all the same features except the dogsled ride.

  1. Lou MacKenzie

Great tour with a lot of information from our tour guide. Scenery was beautiful as was lunch and the activities itself.

  2. Meagan Kruckenberg

If there was 6 stars, we’d rate it as such. This trip was such a positive experience! Most of our cruise went on the White Pass Railway, and this tour followed a similar path, and then more. Not only did we cross the border into Yukon, but being able to stop at least 2 dozen times for photo opportunities of the breathtaking views made it such a great experience and reassured us we made the right choice. The spot we stopped for the sled tour was cute and the food was great. We loved all the animals we got to see as well! Would highly recommend for anyone!

  3. Katrina Rhodes

This excursion was definitely worth the money! You spend 4 hours of the excursion driving through beautiful scenery, stopping and getting out along the way to the camp and on the way back from the camp. You spend about 2 hours at the dog sled camp. The puppies were absolutely adorable! The dog sled via atv was fun and our guide on it was very informative! Lunch was delicious and you will not leave hungry with the portion sizes. Try the homemade donuts you won’t regret it! My favorite part besides the puppies was our tour guide Dennis. He was funny and very knowledgeable! Definitely would recommend!!

  4. Tom Boughner

This was my favorite of 3 excursions on my Alaska Cruise. The views were amazing and Richard, our guide, was excellent.

The dogsledding is kind of a waste of money as it only lasts about 10 minutes but it was still fun to see the dogs and the sightseeing more than made up for it.

  5. Alicia Gomberg

The best excursion we did in all the ports! Eric was amazing and took us to so many different locations to take pics, etc. we very much enjoyed every bit of it

  6. Tammy Dickson

We lucked out with the weather and had a wonderful time. Eric was very knowledgeable and so enthusiastic. It was obvious he loved sharing the beauty of Alaska with us. He was quick to point out interesting things. We loved the dog sledding and the dogs were great fun and enthusiastic. Food was very good and the whole area was well kept and lots of interesting things.

  7. Elizabeth Fahy

The trip out of Skagway up into the Yukon was a great way to spend our day. Our guide, Eric, made the trip entertaining and educational. He had a great sense of humor, gave us some great info on the history and current stats of the area. Skagway was full of clouds and fog which started to clear as went further inland. The dog sledding was as advertised, but wish there were more puppies to cuddle with after the atv ride. Lunch was good and everyone was very friendly.

    July 26th,2023
The beginning was a little confusing as we did not know where to meet the bus. But once we did, and got on the bus our driver was a great tour guide. I believe his name is Cliff. He took us through Yukon making stops and offering to take group pix for people. We did see a bear and took pix. We did ride the dog sled pulled by an ATV with dogs in front. However, it was short and we were not able to pick up the pups or get pix with the dogs.
The lunch was good. Scenery was beautiful. Emerald Lake was gorgeous.

    July 30, 2023
Beautiful scenery, not enough photo stops however, as Noel, our guide, seemed to be in a constant hurry. No wildlife to be seen on our trip
The dog sled is an ATV with dogs running ahead of it.
We skipped this part of the tour!

  10. Jan Overholster

The tour was ok, the six hour bus tour to arrive at the mushers camp to be expecting a dog sled adventure. Very disappointing to have the dog team pulling an ATV. We expected to be in a dogsled with wheels for a feel of what it would have felt like to have an Alaskan Adventure.
Our driver RYAN at times had attitude and didn’t seem to enjoy his job. He was knowledgeable about the area and historical facts. We had many photo opportunities

Overall I was disappointed in the tour. Yes I was aware it was 6 hours but expected more from the mushers camp experience.

  11. RoseAnn

Amazing day! Our guide, Kenton, provided a continuous historical and educational narrative about the Klondike & the gold rush. He was a natural teacher, a skilled driver and engaging storyteller. He also knew the hotspots for photos. We saw a moose with two calves, eagles, mountain goats along with glaciers, gorgeous lakes, deserts and waterfalls. The dogsled camp was awesome! The trainers were experienced and generous with their knowledge. We had plenty of time with the dogs & pups. The BBQ was delicious & the museum was one of a kind. Great memories! Thank you Kenton!

  12. Rod Derley

The scenery on this tour was exceptional and the dog mush was fun although didn’t really get much time to interact with them. Unfortunately our experience with travelling on the bus was less than ideal. It felt like it had no suspension as we felt every bump on the road. It really did need to be replaced or given a decent service.

  13. Marina

While we enjoyed this tour overall, we were disappointed given that the tour was overbooked and we had to wait an extra hour for the bus to pick us up and take us on the tour. As a result, we were rushed through the whole trip and didn’t get much time to slow down and enjoy ourselves. Our dog sled was also overbooked and we were squeezed in-between people, which was very uncomfortable and felt unsafe. The scenery is beautiful but we do wish we had more time to actually explore it.

  14. Yvonne

This itinerary is a perfect sampler of Yukon scenery and play time at the musher farm. Our guide Eric was amazing and offered plenty of information along the way. Highly recommended day trip.

  15. Bart Boma

Amazing tour. Clay recently decided to try something different and its like he has lived there his whole life. Def made the right call moving to Skagway. Super nice and informative and great stops along the way.

  16. DJD

Great day excursion! All way to Canada & back. Our guide Kenton was the best!!!! He was very attentive to everyone’s needs- taking our photos, giving great nature talks & stories! Much much better than railroad! We stopped & saw so much! Emerald Lake was awesome and the Carcross desert really neat! The Caribous crossing lunch was delicious & well organized. Musher trip was great as well- enjoyed seeing the dogs go crazy to run! Sad that there were only Museum was interesting & 2 puppies to pet! Highly highly recommend this excursion.

  17. Carolyn Wells

We loved our tour! Last year my husband & I did the train but wanted to explore more. The bus option was perfect for my kids (3, 7, & 9) and loved the size of the bus. We had plenty of stops to enjoy the views and take photos. My kids also loved exploring the different plants and flowers along the way. Our guide was great with explanations and stories. Caribou Crossing was quite busy but we all still enjoyed it! We did the sled tour and my kids loved it. My only feedback would be for the guides to have the kids sit in the front of the kart so they can see better. Our guide was so informative and the dogs were fun. It was my daughter’s 9th birthday and while riding she said it was the best day ever! Highly recommend enjoying Skagway this way!!

  18. martha

Our driver/guide was awesome. He knew a lot about everything. He patiently took pictures of everyone and told great life stories.

  19. Kimberly

Initially we were disappointed the shorter version of dog sledding was not available, but it turned into a blessing. After speaking with someone about this option, we were so exited to see more of the land. We were informed it follows the train trail, but with options for stops at locations for photos. Something the train couldn’t provide. And then we felt very taken care of and informed at the dog sledding location as to not miss our time slot. The lunch was a little disappointing, but not something that ruined the trip. Their donuts were amazing! Our driver was very personable and took the time for us to get all the photos. Overall, a great decision to see the amazing land and having a dog sledding experience!

  20. Emily Volpicelli

This tour was the highlight of our trip! The drive was breathtaking, and our guide, Clay, was awesome. The destination had a petting zoo, gift shop, included lunch, and the dogs! Though short, we enjoyed the dog ‘sled’ ride (although the microphone the driver used was not ideal… I couldn’t make out what she was saying, at all). An excellent tour, and great deal!

  21. Tapan

It was a nicely conducted tour- the driver and guide was extremely informative and the sledge dog experience was nice… although we imagined a sledge experience on the ice, and it seemed a bit harsh to me to make the dogs run on a dusty dry road… food was adequate and tasty- overall a great tour to remember!

  22. D. Buter

We had a great guide and driver Noa who showed us the most beautiful places and stopped for us to make pictures. Loved the puppies at the musher camp and the food was great

  23. Milton Wild

Great guide and driver (Stuart). The vehicle was good for the trip and the tour was well organised and ran to time.
Lots of interesting scenery and tales of the gold rush days plus an outline of Skagway today.
The dog sled experience was a real highlight.
We really needed more time at the dog sledding place than the 90 minutes we had and the lunch was sub standard.
Overall, we had a great day.

  24. Diane Rossely

Sam,our driver was fabulous. Very informative and felt safe with his driving. Plenty of stops for photos.
Only let down was minimal interaction with the sled dogs and unable to have a ride…apparently due to to wet/ muddy conditions. They did have other very cute pups which was lovely, but e were really interested in the sled dogs of which there was one. Travelled a long way to see these dogs(Australia)
The musher was informative and answered all of our questions.
Other cruise passengers chose a different company for the sled dogs and had wonderful ride and interactive experience.

  25. Karen Stemp

So very disappointed that we did not get a sled dog ride even tho it was part of our itinerary. It was the very reason we booked this particular tour. Sam our driver was amazing and informative. They ran out of lunch items so not even a full lunch. So much disappointment for this.

  26. Wayne

The tour guide, Sam was very knowledgeable and he was very good. He made several stops for photo opportunities. The dog sledding experience was great. The Yukon and Emerald Lake was very pretty and breathtaking. Great excursion.

  27. Miki

We were blessed with an understanding, highly knowledgable guide. We had an issue with Skagway’s pier, all ships had to dock in the water, we tendered in on lifeboats which takes time.. Being on a non-Carnival excursion, you dont have priority. Our tour was 9am, with an 845am meet up time. I managed to get tendering tickets between 830 and 900am from Carnival Miracle. I was still concerned about being late so I called the tour office and advised of my situation. They assured me not to worry and they will wait for me. We managed to get to the meetup right at 9am. Our tour was breathtaking, the bus ride to the Yukon was the best, our guide Kenton (sp?) knew his history and was moderating throughout the tour sharing interesting and intriguing information. The stops were incredible. We were blessed with perfect weather, and an up cloase BEAR encounter from the bus.
We made numerous stops on the route and Kenton knew where to get the photo shots, and took our pics. I only gave this 4 stars because the time at the Dog Sledding place was too short and rushed. We were put on an ATV and our musher was the real deal.. her dogs understood commands only in French. The dogs were happy and it was an amazing experience to learn about the training and lifestyle of this young woman (I wish I remembered her name) Be sure to tip generously , She works so hard, and made us feel so welcomed.(the money she makes goes toward taking care of her dogs making sure they are healthy and ready for the races). She is passionate about her dogs, and listening to her stories and descriptions of the dog’s personalities was so enthralling. The lunch we were served was DELISH!! OMG the homemade donuts YUM!! We had maybe 20 minutes to eat that off to the dog sledding area. It just felt rushed.. on the way back to Skagway we stopped for a Beach Day!! we were able to take a rest and wade in the lake. It was so beautiful. all of it. The pics of the Lakes looked like mirrors reflecting the mountain scenery like a post card It’s a long day, and we got back a little late but in plenty of time to grab dinner and make it back to the cruise ship. I highly recommend this tour.

  28. Ruby Johnson

this tour which included a delicious lunch was great!

  29. Ruby Johnson

This tour was so much fun and the dogs were great!

  30. Melissa Douglas

Our family of 5, ranging in age from 4 to 83, loved this tour. We were on the Crown Princess and were picked up by the tour at the end of our pier. Our guide was very knowledgeable, but also had a great personality so everything was interesting, not just dry facts. The scenery was beautiful, and we stopped many times for photo ops and leg stretching. Our dog mushing experience was really unique and interesting. It was obvious that the musher loves what she does. The lunch that was included was tasty and there were a variety of drinks available for purchase. My daughter loved feeding the alpaca and goats. My only complaint is it would’ve been nice to have another 30 minutes or so. By the time we did the dog mushing and ate our lunch, there was very little time to see the animals or shop in the store. This tour was a perfect day for our whole family.

  31. Mayda

Our tour guide/teacher shared his insight of a country he obviously loves. The landscape is majestic and the history he shared with us made the ride interesting. We stopped at beautiful overlooks for pictures that are memories will hold on to for a long time. All the lakes, Emerald Lake with its colors were fantastic! Our visit for the mushers’ camp was lovely. The dedicated musher shared her passion for her dogs and the ride on the four wheeler with the dogs was a highlight for the little one in our group. We loved the lunch in the wagon! It was all great fun!!! and we learned lots about that country and how Canada and the United States determined that border. Great for everyone’s taste!

  32. Sherry Patchan

We had a great time on this tour and our tour guide, Joe, was outstanding! It was a long drive to the Yukon and only a short time dog sledding; however, we saw the beauty of Alaska, British Columbia and the Yukon. It was an amazing experience for the whole family!

  33. Cocoa Anderson

I did not expect the drive to be as long as it was but wow was it beautiful! The 5 stars go to our tour guide Brian who kept us entertained with stories and the musher camp! We loved snuggling the pups! I just wish we only had more time at the camp. Also loved the photo opportunities, it was a beautiful day!

  34. Patrick O’Brien

A beautiful drive into the interior from Skagway, which not many people get to see, and even fewer venture all the way into the Yukon. We saw several bears and lots of beautiful vistas, learned a lot from our expert guide Dennis, and overall had a great time with our kids.

  35. Julie Vass

We really enjoyed the tour, some of the best photos from our Alaskan cruise are from this trip up to the Yukon. Be aware that 4-5 hours of this trip are spent on the bus, driving. It was comfortable and a beautiful drive, and the tour guide was wonderful, but only a short time at the sled dog camp. Carcross was great, the dog trainers were very informative and the puppies were adorable! But it’s a long drive for a short stop. Great for older people, like us. Thank you!

  36. Leslie Register

Originally I wanted to book a train excursion and was so disappointed to learn most train excursions were already sold out prior to our cruise. As I researched further I learned this excursion literally follows almost the exact same path that the train does except by bus. And in my opinion the bus is the better option anyway as we got to make multiple stops along the way including the Welcome to Alaska & Yukon signs, we drove about 10 minutes out of the way to see the amazing Emerald Lake & our guide was extremely knowledgeable throughout the experience. We really enjoyed the sled dog experience and petting the rescue puppies too! One highlight for us was getting to see a brown in color black bear!
***For 2022 plans keep in mind the train does not go into Canada but this tour by bus goes all the way into Canada and into the Yukon!

  37. Dorothy and William Coker

We had so much fun on this tour. Our tour guide was Brian and I must say he was awesome! He taught us so much about Swagway and very knowledgeable about all the sights he showed us. The sled ride was nice too, the meal there was pretty good also. I love the views going in to Canada though Yukon. We stopped at many beautiful sights, and had plenty of time to take pictures. Loved the Emerald lake ..

  38. blacklabs

The trip was really fun and learn some about sled dogs. It was great seeing how excited the dogs were in getting ready to run! And holding the puppies was really delightful.

  39. Larah Rogg

Knowledgeable tour guide that drove the bus through beautiful scenery of the Yukon with great historical information. Helped out with taking pictures at stops along the way. Loved the sled dog experience (while you do not have a lot of time at Carcross we recommend getting in line for your session early for a closer spot up front which we had to sit in the back since we were spending time looking around.) You also get to hold and play with the pups if you do the ride. Also, the chicken they served was fantastic and fell right off the bone. While we wished we had slightly more time at Carcross, we were grateful to still have a little time downtown at Skagway to shop (it was an all-day tour but we still had enough time – either way the tour guide stops at downtown or the boat for you) and were thankful our tour guide didn’t leave without us since we pushed it to the last minute to be on the bus because of cute puppies.

  40. Diane Nielsen

Guide was very good, very knowledgeable. The scenery was gorgeous. We especially enjoyed the time with the puppies & dog sledding. Very good excursion. Would definitely recommend.

  41. Eric Kirsch

Overall great experience. Incredible views, lots to see. Dogsledding was awesome and fun Max our driver was super nice and informative It’s a full day your. Our boat was leaving at 5 so we did not have enough time to explore town on way back. But we preferred our time seeing the country, and incredible scenery. Strongly recommend!

  42. C Green

Mike was a humorous and informative guide and made the 2-ish hour drive north and back enjoyable and entertaining, even for our 7 and 8-year old kids. The reason I took a star off is for the Caribou Crossing area. We did the dog sled experience, and the image at the top of the alaskashoretours webpage for this excursion is not at all representative of the dog sledding experience. It is not on a cart, it is on a big, loud ATV. As well, not nearly enough time was allotted for this stop to fit in lunch, dog sledding, and the other sections of this otherwise kinda quaint tourist trap area.

  43. Karen

John our driver was super friendly and helpful with taking photos. We had a great tour the weather was beautiful ,scenery amazing, the kids loved the puppies so cute, pity we couldn’t take one home!

  44. Andrew tanner

Mike was an excellent driver and guide. Timing was excellent. Commentary and ideas to keep us entertained on the way back we’re good. Dog sledding was short but an intersting place with good wholesome lunch.
Scenery and places of interest were very excellent.
    Very worth while

  45. Rachel Camarillo

I rarely review anything, but Jessica made our day in Skagway SO AMAZING! She was great with the kids, super informative, funny, and welcoming. The tour was interactive with tons of stops along the scenic drive plus FUN for the kids, we had a 2 year old and a 8 year old with us. I would recommend Jessica’s tour any day! Thank you to her for capturing such amazing photos for our family and for sharing all your insights on the area. Mason is still bragging about being the dessert race winner! Thank you!

  46. Sagar Karmarkar

Mike was a great guide. Very informative and funny! He was sure to make plenty of stops and point out exactly what we were seeing, as well as take our pictures. We were informed while going to Carcross and played games on the way back. The scenery was beyond gorgeous and your pictures will not do it justice. The dog mushing was okay, not exactly what we were expecting, but we loved playing with the husky puppies. The highlight of the trip is the scenery. Well worth the money. We had a group of 12 and all gave it two thumbs up!

  47. Chris Taylor

Brooke was a great guide. Very informative and funny! She was sure to make plenty of stops and point out exactly what we were seeing, as well as take our pictures. The scenery beyond gorgeous and your pictures will not do it justice. The dog mushing was okay, not what I was expecting, but we loved playing with the husky puppies. The highlight of the trip is the scenery. Well worth the money. We had a group of 8 and all gave it two thumbs up!

  48. Greg Taylor

Brooke was an excellent tour guide, very friendly and knowledgeable, and of course the puppies were so sweet

  49. Joe Hebert

The tour was way above what I was expecting. Great driver( Brooke), small group so more personal, lots of sights, went further into the Yukon than expected,(which was awesome) even the kids were in awe at the tour

  50. Warren and Vickie Ewing

Our guide, Hannah, was a fabulous guide. Owner Tom went above and beyond to make sure our group of 5 had a outstanding day. Seeing the bear up close, yes it was right next to our vehicle, and the dog sled ride made our daughter’s and grandchildren trip a once in a lifetime. The ice cream and maple butter was sooo good. We will do this trip again when we return to Skagway.

  51. Colleen Simpson

I can’t say enough about our bus/tour guide Max. He was the BEST! Very knowledgeable about everything, even the plants. He was great and stopped many times for photos and was a very good photographer too. We had some time restrictions, but that was OK and our bus group was small, which I liked. Very comfy bus too.
Max went above and beyond as we forgot a bag on the bus. I rushed to office to call and Chris was calling me at the same time. Max came by within a few minutes to return our forgotten bag. Thanks MAX!!
Definitely do this tour! The buses have A/C and we stopped so many times for photos.

  52. Patricia Pinera

11 of us from 8 to 70 spent the day with Mike on this tour and we all said, best tour guide EVER! The scenery was absolutely gorgeous and he knew all the great stops. And he was so entertaining on the drive! And of course the dogs were great fun! Highly recommend this tour and get Mike if you can.

  53. Ruth Sevidal

This was a spectacular tour, Brooke was great! We saw so much wild life along the way (bears, bald eagle, marmot) and because she knew so much about Skagway, we had the tour of our lives. Our other “shipmates” who took the train ride did not see as much as we did and were very envious when we told them of our bus ride. It was a very fulfilling excursion, this is a highly recommended tour to take when in Skagway.

  54. Steve Smith

This trip to the Yukon was a fantastic day. The scenery was jaw dropping and the host bus driver was knowledgeable. We enjoyed every bit of the day.

  55. Phillip Wang

Tyler was an amazing tour guide. He made many stops for us to take pictures and his knowledge of Alaska, the terrain and ecosystems was amazing. You really feel that you experienced Alaska. He has a keen eye for wildlife and we made more then 1 stop to take pictures of them including a Bear who got “drunk” on dandelions. Without question, the highlight of our vacation.

  56. Amber Friday-Brown

This tour was a fantastic tour!! Our tour guide Brooke was great. She stopped the bus and let us get out and see many of the wonders of Alaska and the Yukon. You don’t get that on the train!! I never felt rushed our hurried, but we moved at a good pace. We saw many beautiful scenes and some wildlife along the way. Take this tour!! And give Brooke a beer token for an excellent job!

  57. Judy Unstad

Our Tour Guide Brooke was excellent!!! We got to see a Brown Bear and cub up close and she had wonderful commentary. It was great that she had lived in Alaska so she knew what she was talking about! Beer token for Brooke!
My only disappointment was the lack of interaction with the sled dogs and virtually zero interaction with the puppies (they were too young). I was really looking forward to that. Otherwise great tour!

  58. James Brown

This was by far our favorite excursion of the trip. Brook our tour guide was great ( so give her an extra beer token boss person). The views were amazing and we got to see a Brown bear and cub up close, so cool!

  59. Kenneth Crist

This tour was amazing. I’ll agree with the commenters that food wasn’t amazing but that wasn’t the reason for the tour in my opinion (and what’s included is described). The sites and stops were exhilarating from a viewpoint standpoint. We saw so much wildlife (including bears up close along the road) that I only expected to see if we were really lucky). This tour is far better than I could expect the train to be as you can’t just stop to look at things. I also think we have the better vantage points. JJ was an amazing tour guide and definitely helped keep us informed.

The sled dogs were not much to be excited about but those with kids or an absolute love for dogs would probably enjoy it. You can do the same tour without the dogs if desired.

  60. TERRY ATKINSON

Great guide, good fun and knowledgeable. We were lucky with fantastic weather but it was too hot for the dogs to work. I agree that the food was basic but that’s not the reason to come to Alaska! Use this tour and forget the train.

  61. Ashley G.

Our tour bus driver Brooke, was amazing! She was knowledgeable about the area, and we were able to get amazing pictures of the scenery. We also came at the right time, and were able to get pictures of 3 black bears right near the bus! The sled dog ride was short but good, and the petting zoo was a fun addition. The food was the only part that was sub-par, there are no options besides the one given to you. I would have liked more variety or a choice between different options. Other than that this is by far the best tour in Skagway!

  62. Connie Goudreau

The pictures were nice, the sled dog camp and ride were fun but very short. The food was not that great I would bring your own snacks. The tour was a bit long in the end, basically just a bus ride with the stop for the sled dogs for a few minutes.

  63. Avi ElChonen

Our driver was knowledgeable, friendly, and interesting, a perfect combination. The bus was comfortable and stopped whenever there was something to see. And the tour operator was extremely accommodating when it came to our kosher dietary needs. Out of all the excursions we took during the cruise, this was the best.

  64. David Sundrud

This tour was amazing from beginning to end. Great guide, and super nice coach. Every aspect of this tour was well done I can’t recommend this enough.

  65. Sarah D

It was a good day – our guide and driver Aaron was fantastic! He was super knowledgeable and told a great story. However I expected more at the dog sled. We didnt get to play with puppies, more watch them sleep in a box. We also didn’t get to go to all the stops further north since people who booked had to be back on their ships at the time the tour was supposed to return, which was a bummer.

  66. Esmari Nel

What an awesome day! The bus was comfortable, our guide a great storyteller and the scenery breathtaking! We couldn’t ask for anything more!

  67. Ron and Pat James

Our tour guide, Jessica (JJ) provided a very informative tour. She stopped at some great locations to allow us close up experiences and snapped photos for all of us along the way. She even found a bear along the way. The scenery was spectacular. Carcross was excellent and unique. The dog sled ride was lots of fun (fast and bumpy).
We are very happy we chose this excursion!! Thanks JJ.

What a unique place the Yukon is with an awesome drive in a little van with huge viewing windows , many stops along the way for pictures, a fantastic lunch ( even with homemade donuts) at Caribou crossing , with the added bonus of a brilliant Taxidermy museum and the cherry on top the dog sled ride and chat with the mushers. what a great day out loved every minute of it !!!

  69. Pam

The only reason for a 4 star instead of a 5 as you advertised that the ride would be 15 minutes and it was at least half that time. But otherwise the staff was wonderful and the ride was fun

  70. Julie Harris

We had a great bus ride throught the Yukon to Carcross and the dog sledding place. Our driver was very knowledgeable and entertaining. There were plenty of stops for photo ops too.

  71. Nenn from Wisconsin

Our driver, Patrick from upstate New York, was wonderful – don’t think we missed anything worth seeing. We were dreading the long bus ride – with all the photo op stops plus Carcross – it didn’t seem long. Went from thick fog going over the pass to sunshine at Carcross – believe it or not, there’s a desert in The Yukon too!
Lunch was great – we ate outside being serenaded by barking sled dogs waiting their turn to run! That cart ride behind 12 eager huskies was a highlight of our week. The ‘hooking up’ start was hilarious – extremely loud barking – then we’ve off in a rush and the decibels decrease and all we hear is panting!
Spectacular views, even smoke from wildfires – sad but beautiful. We are so thankful we didn’t take the train – we would have missed so much. Great job by Frontier Excursions. We will be recommending you to friends.
We’re 79 and 82 and walking was not difficult – even climbing off and on the bus was fun! If your kids are with you, don’t miss the dog ride!

  72. Alan Calderon

The tour guide, Bryan, did a great job taking us from the ship thru a scenic tour of Alaska and Canada to the dog sledding. It was a once in a lifetime experience, and included a great lunch.

  73. Gay

Great trip & guide, Tyler, was excellent. He ensured all his passengers had plenty of opportunities for photos – never rushed, Lunch was really nice & organised. Dog sled ride was good. Highly recommend the tour
Thank you Mark & Gay Australia

  74. Brett and Cheryl

Awesome trip through the Yukon with our wonderful tour guide Candace leading the way. There were beautiful sights to see along with friendly and interesting commentary by Candace. We would take the trip again in a heartbeat! Thanks, Candace!

  75. Brett and Cheryl

We had an awesome day exploring the Yukon with amazing photo stops and wonderful personal commentary by our super tour guide Candace! Would take the trip again in a heartbeat! Thanks, Candace!

  76. Cheryl Piper

We were so glad we chose this tour over the railroad! Our driver Aaron was great! He was very knowledgeable, painted a picture of what it must have been like for the goldrushers, and made many stops for photos. The lunch was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the dogsled ride.

  77. Julie Schwartzbard

A really wonderful day filled with extraordinary sights. The experience was enhanced by our (fearless, inspirational, and educational) driver and tour guide Candace. Definitely request her!

  78. Ruth

This excursion was great! We saw a lot of beautiful sites and took pictures. Loved the dogs and had lots of time to play with the puppies and go for the dogsled ride. It was great to meet Michelle, the owner of the camp, who competed in dogsled races. My daughter was in heaven! Great simple lunch at Caribou Crossing and no issues with timing at all. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly.

  79. Bryna

I chose this trip for my kids since they love dogs and are obessed and the thought of sledding with them was the draw. We loved every moment of this jammed back tour. We loved the carting with the dogs it was a thrill. I loved all the stops and explanations of where we were. Caribou Crossing was so much fun. But we only had 45 minutes to eat and see it all. It was too rushed and I needed a good 30 minutes more to take it all in. It was a jammed packed tour but I learned so much and loved it. Thank you TJ for a great experience.

  80. Lynne Levin

temperature was above 80 and dogs could not be used for dogsled ride. 5 of us were disappointed. Rest of tour was good

  81. Lindsay Craghead

We were very excited for this tour but left a little disappointed. The tour was way too long! We left way past the scheduled leave time and were told we’d be back with enough time to see Skagway but had to rush to get back to our ship instead. We were very bummed we only got to see Skagway on the way in and out of town. It was fun to see new places especially in Canada. The sled dogs were the highlight for us! It was fun to play with the puppies and take a ride with the dogs.

  82. AUDC

We were skeptical about this tour because we had a toddler and infant on the trip with us. We loved every aspect of this tour because of the bus ride, the entertaining driver/guide (Bryan), the beauty of Yukon, the accommodating simple veg & non-veg lunch at Caribou Crossing and the place as a whole (awesome dog-sledding experience, pretty impressive wildlife museum, petting animals, puppies to touch & pet). Lunch felt rushed due to many stops we made to see bears, photo points etc. Might be a good idea to ensure there is enough time to hit the restrooms and get a bite before we go on the dogsled. (we were lucky enough to see bears…three times… what a great sight. wish people didn’t hover around for so long).

  83. Jackie

This was a highlight of our trip – T-Bone was a great guide. Very engaging and lots of interesting info about the various stops. Would have appreciated more information about sled dog in general and their managment and breeding. Also thought the ride was a bit short but very entertaining. Agree with other writers that lunch was a bit disappointing – sandwiches and chips would probably be a better idea.

  84. Janette

Great tour to Yukon! Our guide was very funny and knowledgeable. We saw bears on the side of the road and my daughter loved the puppies at Caribou Crossing. Dog sledding was a lot of fun and lunch was simple but good.

  85. Nicole

It was a great tour! Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. We had the chance to see bears during our ride! We stopped on the side of the street and were able to take pictures. The dogsled ride was fun. Would definitely recommend this tour.

  86. Jodi Kautz

All was great – guide, views, dogs

Disappointed that we weren’t able to play with the puppies as we believed we would. “interacting” with the puppies only included looking at them. Our friends were able to play with two litters of puppies on the same type of tour in Juneau. My girls were very disappointed

  87. Bobbie B

It was a great day! T-Bone was our guide, completely knowledgeable, friendly and funny. He took our pictures and we saw so many bears including a mama and her cubs. He was great at spotting wildlife for us. Loved the Sled Dogs and overall was super happy. Our only dissapoinment was lunch. It was a chicken thigh with a hard half of a potato and coleslaw. Would have rather just had a simple sandwich and chips. Do yourself a favor and when you stop in Carcross grab a delicious sandwich. The price of this tour is SO worth it that you aren’t paying for the lunch anyhow – I would splurge on a sandwhich next time. Tip*Bring snacks for the drive and ask for Tyler as your guide!

  88. LAH

Our guide was Candace. She is a true gem. Very knowledgeable of the area and told lots of interesting stories. So glad we took this tour. Alaska is a beautiful state and words are just not adequate to describe the overall experience.

  89. Julie Scott-Gilroy

Highly recommend this trip to see the Yukon. We loved every minute. Patrick our driver/guide was exceptional. Very knowledgeable and knew all the best spots for photos to avoid others being in the shot.

We got to see lots of wildlife on this trip from bears, moose and otter to name a few.

Loved the stop at Caribou Crossing. The dog sled ride was great fun and the puppies were adorable. Lunch was very good too.

    Emerald Lake was spectacular!!

  90. Connie Kennedy

We started our day with Tyler (T-Bone) and explored like champions. The train closed down for the day so we were even MORE lucky to have the chance to see more of the area on this tour. Tyler gave tons of info on the local area plus science info that was truly interesting to hear. We stopped to see mountain goats and then onto Carcross. We enjoyed a great BBQ lunch (in a covered wagon!) and had a quick ride with the dog team. The puppies weren’t out like I thought they would be to play with and they were pretty big for puppies (16 weeks). It was no matter – the dog sled experience was crazy fun. We saw Emerald Lake and spotted a bear on the distant shore. On the way back to town, we saw a bear up close and it was magical. Tyler was absolutely great in every way and we very much enjoyed our tour and would choose it again any day.

  91. Irene Hagman

We booked the tour a few weeks before our 2 week vacation in Alaska. My husband and I took the tour on May 16th Heidi our guide was delightful with her stories and love of the area and the lifestyle. This was education and very fun. We saw bear, sheep, and a wide variety of plant life and trees. The stories at our stops were great. We could not have imagined a better tour day and tour guide.

  92. Jennifer Weiler

I wish I had more stars to give, maybe 40 stars (5 for each of us in our group) would be the right amount! This was an extremely informative and entertaining trip. Brooke was our tour guide. She was funny, knowledgeable and patient. I think her enthusiasm alone made the trip life memorable.
I loved that we were on a small bus and could take our time making it to Caribou Crossing. There was so much to take in. The day couldn’t have been more beautiful. The big, big skies reminded me of Iceland (Montana too!). This part of the country cannot be missed. If you’re anywhere near Skagway, you’ve got to see the Yukon!
The cost of the trip was very competitive and well worth it. Make sure you add on dog sledding when booking, because it’s well worth the extra fee (and I believe it’s more expensive when booked at Caribou Crossing). It’s also so much fun. 15 to 20 minutes was about the right amount of time, the mushers were very friendly and answered all our questions. Magnus Kaltenborn, a 2018 Iditarod finisher, was the musher for our sled. I believe he owns the kennel. The dogs are friendly, , well attended to, beautiful and strong. We visited the puppies right after the sled ride. So adorable!
As for lunch…As a vegetarian, I found the dahl delicious. My family loved the bar-b-que chicken. You’ve got to try the donuts. If you have special dietary needs (like gluten free), please let them know ahead. I believe they will try to accommodate you. We had ice cream afterwards, yum! (That’s how warm the day was in the Yukon in mid-May.)
Finally, we booked through Alaska Shore Tours. I would use them again when in the area. They provided excellent service. They’re like an aggregator and work with various tour companies. We got Frontier Excursions for our tour to the Yukon. Frontier was top notch!

  93. Kate Huang

We are a group of five — my 60 yo mom, my husband and I with two little girls (2 and 4 yo). We all had a great time.
It was the best way to explore the beautiful environment! We got to take lots of amazing pictures and my girls got some time to touch and played with water/sands and snows. The tour guide was very knowledgable and humorous. We learned the story/history about the towns. We enjoyed a lot. Glad that I made this choice!

  94. Mary Beseres

This was a great way to see this magnificent area! T-bone was our guide and he was phenomenal. We made numerous stops to take photos, and our guide was very knowledgeable, informative and interesting to listen to. The only disappointment was we paid for the dogsled ride, but were told it was too muddy for that to take place and so we couldn’t participate in that part of the trip. The lunch was very good, and visiting the puppies was really fun. I would definitely recommend doing this shore excursion.

  95. Catherine Casserly

Brooke, our guide, was funny and knowledgeable and provided a local person’s point of view. We had a great day. The chicken lunch was very good but a little rushed because we wanted to take the dog dog trip. Not to be missed was the talk given by Magnus, the dog handler who provided a ton of insight into dog racing in a hostile environment. Superb alternative to taking the trip which most tourists seem to do. We saw and did so much more .

  96. livetotravel

Our guide, Heidi, was great. She took the time to share stories and her love of the area, she found stops that were less crowded and/or had us come back to popular stops later in the day when they were less crowded, and she always offered to take photos for us. The buses were nice and the scenery was beautiful. My only complaint is that there was not enough time at Carcross. We only had an hour to eat lunch, tour the museum, use the facilities, do the dogsled ride, look at the animals, and play with the puppies. We were not able to do most of these things in our alloted time there.

  97. T. Sands

Great experience. Well done. Guide/driver Mike is he best.

  98. Lila and Troy

Thomas was our guide and amazing. Saw mountain sheep, porcupine. drank from glacier water, did many photo stops, and the dog sled ride was perfect. He had very versed info about everything we saw and made our trip wanting more.
